I read that if you exercise throughout your pregnancy it's more likely to bring on pre-term labour ( well i think it might have been about runners actually). I was wondering how true it is and if it's happened to anyone, if it's safe, it also said that it was good because by then the baby is fully developed and ready to be born but maybe they just meant right at 40 weeks.either way anyone know how true it is?

There are alot of misconceptions about excercise and pregnancy. IF you were in shape and excercising regularly (before and throughout the pregnancy) then you can do it all the way up until you deliver...IF your body is used to it. I am 31 weeks, I have been running, doing elipitical, weightlifting, etc and my doc says it's perfectly alright. But I have been doing it for years. If you decided at 5 months pregnant that you are going to start running or excercising alot.. then it might bring on preterm labor, your body isn't used to it and it is a big strain. the best thing is to do is stick with your routine, if you weren't really active before pregnancy then stick to walking if you were a runner before then continue unless you feel uncomfortable. this is the advice I was given.

thanks, i thought it was about everyone. Before i ran for about 20-60 minutes a few times a week, the first trimester i was too tired to do anything but i've played sports a few times and lately ran for about 20 minutes maybe twice a week and some swimming/walking, i just don't feel up to it!It's getting a little uncomfortable now that I'm starting to show to,but runnings always made me feel better.

As momma3tobe mentioned, there are so many misconceptions about exercise. The only way you will not be able to gently exercise is if your OB says not to. I read that you liked to run, I did too until I started to show and have to pee every 5 minutes. What I found Helpful was the bellybands and belly supports they sell on many websites. I don't like to swim though, I feel like a turtle on my back!
