I am relieved to see that I am not alone. I am 9weeks pregnant with my second child and cannot believe how much more I am eating this time around. I have been nauseated most days but find that if I am not eating at least every 2 hours watch out! My first pregnancy was not like this at all. I have gained around 7 pounds thus far and feel quite bummed out as all of my cute pants are too tight (having trouble breathing as I type this!) I was quite lean prior to this pregnancy (size 2) and wonder if all of this eating is because the baby needs it? I am trying to subst_tute healthier alternatives for the high-fat stuff because that is all I ate before becoming pregnant again but for some reason my body rejects the low-cal turkey sandwich on whole grain for something more "meatier" like a cheeseburger (which I rarely ever ate before)....what is up with me?

Louisa, I'm floating in the same boat as you. I started out at 116 pounds and by 11 weeks I was 124 pounds. I'm now almost 24 weeks preggo. I go in for my next appt on Monday, so we'll see how much weight I've gained. So far I've gained a total of 17 pounds and that was at my last check-up--21 weeks.

Before I was pregnant I ate very little due to previous weight problems. Once I got pregnant it seemed as if I had to eat constantly to ward off nausea. Once that faded, then I was (and still am) just hungry all of the time. I gained about 15 lbs. in my first trimester, and kept climbing from there (I am now 40 weeks and 190!!!! So I gained about 55 lbs.). My advice would be to just not worry about it - it's better to be overweight and have a healthy baby than to starve the both of you. If you are hungry, your body is telling you to eat. Sometimes the hormones in pregnancy cause you to gain a lot even if you make good choices. I do wish I had not had so much juice and soda - I probably could have saved a few pounds there. I plan on b___stfeeding though, so the weight should come off with a balanced diet.

I want to share this with you all too hopefully encourage someone. I am 9 weeks pregnant with my second child. Every time I start to worry about gaining too much weight during pregnancy I am reminded of my first pregnancy. During my first pregnancy, I gained about 60 pounds. I can tell you from experience in the work place with another lady who was just a couple weeks further along than I was and much slimmer, that dieting and skipping meals is not a good way around weight gain. I noticed that she dieted and was unhappy and irritable the majority of her pregnancy because she was always focused on her weight. She often became sick from not eating because "she had junk food earlier and had to make up for it." On the other hand, I was so happy and was often referred to as the happy pregnant lady at work and was more pleasant. I did not just sit around eating junk, if that is what you are thinking. However, I did eat lots of healthy foods and some junk every now and then. My favorite food was any kind of sweet cereal anytime of day, which the doctor says was probably the main culprits for my large weight gain. I walked my dog a mile almost everyday after work when I got home, did light exercise with my military unit during physical training and had an extremely good pregnancy and a quick and easy delivery. Yes, for a short time I was the, b___t of a few other ladies jokes because they were focused on the end result after my pregnancy and how big they thought I would be. However, about a month after I had my son I had already lost 30+ pounds. I stopped by work and everyone was shocked. By the time my son was 6 months old, I was smaller than my pre-pregnancy weight. I didn’t have a huge gut or anything. That being said, eat healthy and try to avoid junk foods, but most importantly make sure that your pregnancy is as pleasant as possible you are going to gain weight during pregnancy that is a part of life. Some just gain more than others. Everyone is different. Stay physically active, eat healthy and let’s have some healthy babies’ ladies! :) Babies are blessings from God. God bless you all.

At eleven weeks I had already gained eight pounds. I felt lke I was gaining weight way too fast. All I wanted to do was eat and sleep. I think that is normal though. You have to listen to your body. Now I am at 20 weeks and the weight and the hunger has leveled off. I am at 12 pounds now, which I feel good about and I now have my energy back to exercise more. My mother told me to eat how I wanted and to worry about the weight after the baby was born.

Hi, I am so glad I found all of your comments! Mandi I KNOW how you are feeling! I started out at around 115 (only 5'2'' so more than i usually weigh anyways) and by my 15th week i already gained 11 pounds! I felt so weird in the first trimester but I think it was due to the vitamins so i started taking them at night and it was a blessing! (I used to always feel hungry but sick at the same time, even though i only got sick once...it was horrible!) Anyways I am going to the doctors next week (20+ weeks along) and I am VERY nervous about the scale! I think I gained at least 5 pounds in this past month (4th)...i was doing great but once that 16th week hit (and they say the baby's weight doubles that week) it was like all i wanted to do was EAT! Plus i sit at a desk all day at work so it's not like i'm running around although i try and do leg lifts and walk when i get home as much as i can. I'm still trying to make myself realize that gaining weight during pregnancy is OKAY, and everyone gains it differently. Mine's all in my belly thus far! So to everyone, please don't worry, but eat in moderation like they all say and you'll do fine! I wish everyone a HAPPY and QUICK labor :)

I have always been slim, and I eat whatever I want to when I want to,and never gain a pound, but with my first pregnancy I started out 5'9 135lbs,and by the end of my pregnancy I was 195lbs,my son ended up weighing 9lbs 3.5oz's,and healthy. The weight was very difficult to shed.Immediately after having him I dropped 20lbs from the weight of the placenta, baby and all that stuff, but I ended up hitting a plateau, and had to change more of my diet and exercise regimen which eventually by the time my son was a little over a year old I had just about got back to my pre-pregnancy size, and then boom Im pregnant again. At 12 weeks along I have already gained 9lbs I was worried about my weight gain, but now I just look at it like this I am pregnant my body is going to store fat I am just going to have to deal with it,as long as I have a healthy baby again I will be okay,Im just going to have to work really hard after i have baby number two.Good luck to everyone with your pregnancy's.Don't worry about your weight gain or compare yourself with someone else every woman is different as well as every pregnancyand every baby. I hope you all have no problems and have wonderful healthy babies.

I have struggled with my weight ever since I can remember (pre-pregnancy). I lost a lot of it at college and living on my own. When I got pregnant with my first one I was the fittest I had ever been and I was SO excited to EAT!! I felt like for the first time in my life I could eat what ever I wanted and gain weight and it was "okay" because I was pregnant. After my beautiful healthy boy was born I became really down and hard on myself because of all the weight I had gained. As time went on I began to lose the weight, a lot slower than I put it on. Now that I am pregnant with my second child I have been trying to eat a lot healthier but feel like I am gaining weight twice as fast!! At first I was less than thrilled to be pregnant again before all my previous weight was gone (my first child is 2 yrs old now) but as I thought about it more, I got more excited. People fight to lose weight no matter what their figure is like. I decided that I am going to make myself happy for now and just enjoy the fact that I am having another little angel. I don't want to get myself bogged down on the scale and miss out on the excitement of pregnancy. The weight will come and go along the way because it always has and it always will. Eat, drink, and be PREGNANT!! You have all the time in the world to lose the extra pounds after birth.....

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I haven't really been too hungry, is this normal? I have had a few cravings but I am eating quite smaller portions for some reason.

Drink Plenty of water Gather foods from different Food groups, that will satisfy all your cravings, Graze througout the day and you will feel your body will have what it needs and not want the Sweet or Salty things. Keep in mind portion control. ( Believe me this is easy said then done). Just remember that the body that was once yours now belongs to your growing baby.
