I'm not sure but I wouldn't. You can still work out throughout your pregnancy and use light hand held weights but I would stay away from any heavy weight lifting.

As a rule, don't lift to build muscle but lift to maintain it. This being said, use proper form at all times (no matter how long you've been doing it, have a proffessional watch you), do not do abdominal exercises like crunches (where your chest and knees come together) or anything with weights. Do no life heavy weights that require your core muscles to stablize you or worse, help lift the weight. Lifting heavy boxes or furniture around your house has always been a no-no while pregnant so it isn't any different with heavy weights. And yes, lifting stuff can cause a miscarriage as the placenta may tear from the uterus.

Yes, I have a friend that works in the nursing field. They lift guys who are upwards of 450 pounds, and she has miscarried once and has had coworkers who have miscarried. Might it be they are using improper lifting techniques or not toning the right areas? I don't know, but yes, it is possible, so be careful.
