What about in your second and third trimester. Is there any abdominal excercises you can do to streghnthen your back and abdominals, that will make labour easier?

My doc said if I hv not been exercising, thn better not exercise bcos this will upset my body (our body need times to adjust to the chages)..so if you have been exercising, you may want to do it moderately but if you have not been exercising for past few months, better not.

It is so strange how everyone has gotten such different advice about exercising during pregnancy. I was reading an article in one of the pregnancy magazines where a leading obgyn indicated that he encourages all of his patients, even women that haven't exercised prior to pregnancy, to begin exercising. He indicated that all women benefit from some level of exercise while pregnant. However, if you haven't exercised previously, he cautions women to be extremely cautious and to limit themselves to leisurely walks and water exercises, etc. The demands of labor will require a woman to be fit.

My Dr. said that since I'm high risk for miscar. I should avoid sit-ups, heavy weights at the gym, and intense excercise until we see a heartbeat (hopefully) at about 7 weeks, when we'll evaluate how safe it is. I'm used to quite intense exercise. The Drs. who cover over the weekend weren't nervous about exercise at all though. I'll play it safe.

Thank you so much for all your advise people. I am an aerobics instrcutor and always end my cla__s with some Ab work. I wasnt too sure what to do about that, but i think since this is my first baby i will just go ahead and eliminate these all together. I guess you can say i'm worried :(

I too am an aerobics instructor and pre/post natal fitness instructor. The advice i give to ladies is carry on doing some abdominal training in the first trimester but stop when you get to the second. There is a way you can still train them and that is by static contraction. Also doing pelvic floor exercises. It's good to use the swiss ball for these exercises too. Hope this helps :)

I taught 7 Jazzercise cla__ses a week with my first pregnancy and all was fine. Pay attention to your body. It will tell you when it is time to slow down. I also did sit-ups in every cla__s until 4 days before delivery. My pregnancy was not high risk, but my doctor was just happened to specialize in high risk pregnancies and he didn't see a problem. BUT, if you haven't exercised before pregnancy, don't make this the time you "get in shape."

Sorry, by "get in shape" I don't mean don't exercise, I just mean be healthy and LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Drink lots of water and if your in a cla__s with others, don't try to push to keep up with everyone else, just do what your body and baby says is ok.
Good luck everyone and take care of those baby motels.

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and i'm currently enlisted in the Marine Corp, I need to know if it is safe to do crunches or sit ups right now or can it cause abnormalities to my lil thing inside of me?

I'm currently in week 14 and have been doing crunches on the stability ball throughout my pregnancy. My doc said to stop with situps while positioned flat on my back on the floor after the fourth month and I'll adhere to her instructions, but so far, so good. I attribute my still flat tummy to all my crunches. But, as always, listen to your body, if it hurts, stop doing it!
