Is it safe toplay softball for the first trimester. Obviously taking extra percaustions(ie., not sliding into bases, not getting hit by the ball etc..)

No, you can't control other people. They may run into you. And you can't control grounds.

May, everything's a risk. I think softball is a relatively low risk team sport b/c it's not a close contact game (like soccer). That said, there are risks. I'm 19 weeks along and still play twice a week. I did have a scare -- totally random -- I tripped down first base line and fell (and i'm not a clumsy person). It really freaked me out, but the kid's fine and the dr said not to worry. That was 3 weeks ago. I still play now, but play in the outfield rather than 2nd base where I feel that i'm more at risk. In the end, it's really your decision.

My doctor told me I could play until I was 15 weeks since that's when my belly would begin to stick out and the baby become somewhat more exposed.

As long as your good at ball why not!!! I played 1st base until I was 8months preg, I couldn't run when I batted because of obvious reasons. If your a little concerned about injury, just play in the field where you can control things a little more.
