Hi all,
I'm due february and am happy about it. I'm over 40 but really optimistic. The only issue is my running. I run about 3 miles a day and can't think of giving it up, thought was given many explanations as to why its not a good idea. any advice? comments? experience? please, no horror stories...thx

did the doctor say you were high risk or something? i'm not sure if age has to do with anything but they say you can keep running, as long as you pace yourself. It's probably no problem for you in the first trimester, but might get annoying in the second.

Hey micci, I am also a runner- b/t 6-7 miles a day sometimes 8. Running is fine. I've run almost straight through my last two pregnancies and am running 6-7 miles a day with this one. the dr just told me to listen to my body and if I spot then stop until my next visit or for a little while or if you dont feel comfortable running full speed ahead then just slow down. I am also a member at runnersworld.com and there are lots of women there that run 10+ miles some days so running in and of itself is fine unless you're high risk.

hello jenna32 and cattac - I am in a sort of grey area. i was sent to bedrest in two earlier pregnancies (due to early cervix shortening.) I ended up overdue with no signs of labor until I had to be induced (not fun.) only 1/3 cases of cervical shortening result in preterm labor (the rest show normal pregnancy progression) and based on my 'portfolio' my dr thinks I don't belong in this group. however, she does not encourage my running either (-- as "in case we are wrong..."). maybe just for the slim possibility I should find a swimming pool (walking just doesn't really help) and get this guiltful dilemma off my chest. run for me galls, will ya?

micci, I completely understand and if I were you I'd probably keep my running shoes off too. Not only because of the cervix shortening but because bedrest cannot be ANY FUN! If I could not run I would definitely take up swimming and would make myself like it. I believe that's the next best thing you can do and like you I dont think running does a d*mn thing for me. After running for so long I dont feel like I can really break a sweat walking.

cattac. thanks for the support. you know what it was all psychological(i couldn’t give up my strict routine)...i just came back from the pool. it was great --though during school year adding another 30 minutes drive to the rest of the schlep is going to be a struggle. hey, but you know what,i'm determined to keep at it! on friday im going for my first ultrasound ..so excited..
