Studies have yet to show the negative effects of marajuana on pregnancy. They try to relate it to cigarettes which are full of harmful chemicals...not the same thing. I know many who have smoked throughout pregnancy and had happy healthy babies. I know women who did not, and had complications or miscarriages. So, as of this time, studies have not shown marajuana to be harmful. However, it will always be a healthier choice not to smoke.

And, by the way, THC does not store in the placenta. However, it will store in b___st milk so if you are going to smoke it is not recommended to b___st feed.

I have many pregnancy books that help me out with questions I feel i should know. I'm no doctor, but one of my books tell me that if you are doing drugs, just stop. I know many people who smoked during pregnany and they're babies are fine, HOWEVER. It is very dangerous and what turned out ok for some people may not turn out the same way for you. It isn't worth the risk. Your baby can come out smaller than average which reduces the changes of your baby being healthy. Most of us pregnant women wish for a healthy baby more than anything.I've read in my books, that even when the father smokes weed b4 or during it can increases chances by half of your baby having sudden infant death.and according to the book "WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOUR EXPECTING" marajuana DOES cross the placenta.you may gain inadequate weight also. or catch hyperemesis.it can damage genes. cancer in offspring.fetal-syndrome characteristics. withdrawals at birth. read the book!!

First I think it was quite ignorant that not one person has answered nor commented on the question that Leah originally asked. This is the problem with society, traditions/or the lack there of, what some call the "norm" etc. we read so far into what people say or ask. Or we want them to all be the same. Why?
Leah I would just ask your doctor as they would know best. Now for whether or not it is good or bad for you? Wanting a baby is choice, having a heathly baby is a miracle. I have a three year old who I quit everything with, she ended up getting RSV at 3 months which has now caused respitory problems, ashma etcetc. I am a smoker during my second, of course not as much as before but occasional. I told my doctor and although not agreed that I should be doing this she is not worried about defects or such from the smoking. Smoking cigarettes yes but ganja no. Be strong and enjoy your pregancny and soon the baby. It is the most joyful thing that can ever happent to a woman. :)
Emma,
And for cursing to someone like that, you should be embarrased. The world is full of opinions and they should be shared tastefully-

Melanie, its sad that every mom you know smoked pot while they were pregnant, doesnt say much for yourself. And you shouldnt influence people to smoke while they are pregnant. and sar.. you acting like were not trying to help. i did answer the question!!!!! if the baby can come out with withdrawals, then the answer is yes. now whose the ignorant one? i answered it and gave her information incase she was still smoking. and you comment on judging, when the first sentence you typed was a judgment on people trying to help. I wasn't that healthy when i didnt know i was pregnant, but i am now. u just know to stop and change my lifestyle to increase the chance of a healthy baby. and no it doesnt effect every baby when u smoke weed, but the chances do increase, so even though it didnt effecct some of your kids, it still can effect others.!

It will be in your babys ststem if you smoke up untill delivery. as for the rest of you judgemental know it alls, some people only smoke to ease off morning sickness. If you weigh the benifits of smoking a little pot and being able to eat to puking your guts up and not being able to eat a thing all day then I think pot will probably be better to do than not.

My best friend smoked weed during her pregnancy and while b___stfeeding. Her son aidan will be two this month and is FINE. The issue of marijuana is more political than anything else. I see nothing wrong with smoking weed. This coming from a member of a twelve step program who has been sober for awhile. To answer your question about your baby testing positive and how long it is in the baby's system I can only guess. I think it makes sense that your baby will test positive if you smoke up until the birth because marijuana stays in an adult's system for around 30 days and is bound to be in your baby's system. How long after your baby is born will it still be in his/her system? I would think at least 30 days if not more as infants are more susceptible to things like temperature, food, light and therefore marijuana. One thing to consider. I had physical withdrawal symptoms for the first 6 months after i quit smoking. They weren't anything I couldn't handle, just things like headaches and some nausea. If an adult with marijuana in her system has withdrawal symptoms, it is probably safe to say that an infant will also have withdrawal symptoms. Ultimately it is YOUR decision. Get the facts, talk to your doctor. Coming on her and talking about it shows your concern. If you decide to continue smoking that does NOT mean that you don't love your child or you love weed more than your child. Lastly, You may want to evaluate your habit as it could easily lead to addiction (more psychological than physical, but it also has a physical aspect) Good luck and best wishes for you and your baby.
