Miscarriage At 8 Weeks My Story

Pearl - December 28

My LMP was on 10/30/09. Starting around 11/8 I had extreme back pain that lasted about 2 weeks. On 11/30/09 I started my period (a few days late-I had an IUD in place). I put a tampon in and went about my day. About 2 hours later I had some va___al pain so I went to the bathroom to switch to a pad. When I removed the tampon my IUD came out as well. My period stopped so on 12/1 I took a pregnancy test. It was positive. On 12/2 I took another (just to be sure) and it was positive as well. Due to the IUD being in place when I conceived, my doctor had me do a series of tests including an early ultrasound on 12/17. Everything was perfect. Levels were all great and the baby looked wonderful with a heartbeat of 139. Yesterday I took a nap with my youngest child and woke up to find my panties were bloody (red). After that I spotted for about 4-5 hours and had some light cramping. At one point I took a shower to relax and had a slight trace of tissue pass. The pieces were small and stringy. Nothing looked recognizable. My bleeding stopped around 8pm (last night) and so did the cramping. It's been about 24 hours since the bleeding began. I called my doctor this morning and the nurse in the office told me that a lot of women have some sort of spotting/light bleeding around 8 weeks. She told me that I could come in for another ultrasound if I felt like I needed to but not to worry too much unless it gets worse. I hadn't had any spotting since about last night until about an hour ago. Now I am doing some slight spotting (pinkish) but nothing is even getting to the pad. I am only 8-9 weeks along so I know that if the baby were to pass it wouldn't be recognizable. I am just wondering what I am looking for if I am losing the baby. Anybody have an experience with this? I am not currently in any pain (very dull back ache-I have had it the entire pregnancy), I am just really worried. Thanks.

I had some spotting with my son at about 10 weeks and severe back pain. I was sure it was a miscarriage but went in and they did a v____al ultrasound and said he was fine. They said some people have bleeding early that is not explainable.

Just wanted to update and get some information if possible. The day after I posted I started some heavier bleeding. I called my doctor and he told me to come in for an exam (12/29). My uterus was the correct size but for some reason the bleeding was increasing. I had another ultrasound done and found out the the baby's heart had stopped but the placenta was still growing. I decided to come home and have a natural miscarriage. Late that night I had cramping and contractions (I have 3 children so I knew what the pain was) and the bleeding got pretty heavy. On 12/30 I pa__sed several large clots ranging in size from a quarter to a lemon. By 12/31 the bleeding had just about stopped and I had no more pain. I spent New Year's at home resting. I returned to work and normal life on 1/4 and I was feeling fine all morning. I got to work like I normally do and as soon as I stepped out of the car I had a huge rush of fluid and ran to the rest room. I pa__sed another piece of tissue about the size of a lemon. After that the bleeding stopped again and I thought it was all over since I hadn't had any pain for quite a while. Early this morning (1/5) around 1:30 or so I woke up in a panic and ran to the bathroom to find yet another large piece of tissue and gushed blood for about 10 minutes. It was a lot like a urine stream but it was blood (I know it's graphic I am sorry). About every 15-20 minutes from 1:30a-8a I would have to make another trip to the restroom to pa__s a large piece of tissue and then sit on the toilet until the bleeding stopped (took about 5-10 minutes each time). It's been several hours since I have had any heavy bleeding and I am wondering how much tissue I should be seeing and just how much blood is too much? I am not bleeding all of the time just a few hours per day. I have no pain or cramps or anything. When should I be concerned? It's been over a week and I am still expelling large clots. Should I be worried or just continue to let this happen naturally?

I am so sorry you're going through this. I have had 4 miscarriages (one ectopic) in the last 2 years. I have had to of them pa__s natural and never experienced that much tissue or the size you're explaining. I was told that if I were to need to change my pad more than every 1/2 to 1 hour that I needed to go to the ER. It sounds like you might need to just to be one the safe side. Good luck to you. :o)

Thank you wanttostayprego. I am sorry for your losses. Since 1/5 (my last post)the bleeding has stopped and there has been no pain at all. I have pa__sed any clots or pieces of tissue either. I am hoping my body has expelled all of it. Starting this morning I have had a lot of brown and red tinged mucus. There is no smell to it as far as I can tell and I am thinking that it might be a sign that it's over but I am unable to find any information on it relating to the time after the miscarriage. Any information would help. Thanks ladies.

Well since I am the type of person that freaks out over everything regarding the miscarriages because of my ectopic emergency, I would still go to the doctor to get a final ultrasound. I have been told several times by my doctor that every miscarriage is different. It sounds like yours is probably over. Thank goodness. It sounded like you really went through a lot of pain. ;o) It also took different lengths of time for my regular cycle to return. Once it only took 4 weeks. But the last one actually took about 6 weeks.

My update for anyone that wants to know: No bleeding or spotting for close to 2 days now. No discharge at all. Very dry. No pain in several days. I guess it's over...Now what? I guess I wait for my period to return.

DownbutnotOUT - January 13

I would go see my dr and make sure everything has pa__sed usually a follow up u/s is done. I heard even the smallest piece of tissue left behind can give you an infection, extreme cases infertility. My question is have you pa__sed any tissue that is thick, almost like liver thick? I would recommend seeing a dr to be on the safe side.

Pearl - January 13

What does the thick tissue mean?

Just wanted to update one last time: Feeling WONDERFUL lately. Started running again (only 3 miles per day right now). It was hard for me to do when I was in pain and bleed heavily. I have a lot more energy and it's making easier emotionally to get through everything. No bleeding anymore. S_x drive has finally returned. My husband and I are starting talk about trying for our next child. I have been loading up on the vitamins to get my body back to normal. Drinking plenty of water. Just overall getting back into the swing of everyday life. It is getting a lot easier with every day. Thank you to all of you ladies who gave me advice and helped me cope. Just venting m emotions helped me get through all of this. Hope to talk to you guys more in the future. For now I am off to a family dinner. It's the first one since we made the announcement that I was pregnant so I hope it goes smoothly. My family knows about the miscarriage so I am sure they will all be very supportive. Have a nice weekend!

Sorry for your loss Woman_are_us. Here's my update. I hadn't bled since Jan. 10th until the 29th. It started slow (as my period usually does) and there is no pain at all. I am wondering if this is my first period since the miscarriage? I read that in order for your cycle to officially start after a miscarriage there has to be at least 20 days between the bleeding. It was about 19 1/2 days so I am going to a__sume my cycle has started? Any of you get your period back yet?

Pearl - February 3

Another update. I am sure this is my first period since the miscarriage. It has been just as heavy as the original miscarriage. There have been several pieces of tissue that have pa__sed as well. I hope this is over soon. Emotionally it's been tough.

Pearl I went through a very bad miscarriage when I was young similar to what you have been going through. I ended up in the hospital for a week because I had lost so much blood and had a bad infection. Mine was different because the bleeding happened for two weeks straight and didn't stop. This last summer I had another miscarriage. I found out I was pregnant, had a scan and found out that the baby didn't have a heartbeat. I decided to let things happen naturally. It happened very fast ( in one afternoon) and I felt o.k. the next day. I went in for an ultrasound a week later just to make sure that everything had pa__sed. If at all possible you should go in and get an ultrasound..just to make sure that everything has pa__sed. Best of luck to you!

MOMMYLUVZU - February 16

I'm sorry for your loss but the clots were from the uterine wall and the actual fetus mmy mom had one at 12 wks and she said the same thing. I just had mine last night at 6wks 6dys and it was very quick my clots never got bigger than a large jawbreaker. I'm just having spotting now. God bless you and I'm sorry your going through this
