Slow Rising Hcg And Empty Sac

I have irregular periods; my last period was March 11; I've averaged my cycles at around 33-35 days. I took 3 cheap $1 pregnancy tests around April 13, 14, then 15. All three were negative. April 24th I thought I starting having periodlike cramps, which is weird because I don't usually have a cramps until I actually have my period. There was no period, so I took a First response test, which was clearly positive. Both lines were the same consistency. I am just not sure when I conceived. I did have spotting on April 6th but it was the day after intercourse with my husband, so I'm not sure if that was implantation or not. April 30th I had my first doc's visit. She did a sonogram, the one on top of the belly, did blood work, but no urine. My hcg level came came back at 4491. By the way, I had a miscarriage last year August, unexplained. I have had two successful pregnancies. I experienced bleeding in both of those successful pregnancies. Anyway, this is my first time starting out with this OB. I had met her during the final trimester for my last born son. So I didn't know her procedures during first trimester. She says my levels were too low, so she did another blood test the Friday, May 4th, which came back at approx. 5591. She was concerned because it didn't double. That Mon. April 30, she didn't see anything, this time, a week later, May 7th, when she read the 2nd blood results from that Friday, she took another sonogram which now showed a sac, but empty. She then went on to say that my pregnancy is not viable. I'm devastated. I told her I still wanna wait and see. She sent me to get an intrava___al ultrasound done, which shows that there is a sac, but the onsite doc and the tech said that it might just be too early to tell. My doc, has pretty much dismissed this pregnancy; Has anyone out there been through this and came thru successfully? To top it off I have just started experiencing brown spotting. I still feel pregnant, but not like I think I should. Is there still hope for me? My blood level is now 6051. That was taken on May 7th.

Hi there. First of all I want to say that I'm so sorry you are having such a hard time with all of this. If I were you, I would chose another OB, and get a another ultrasound. Brown blood is old blood. If you are pregnant than that would lead me to believe it was implantation bleeding. How many weeks do would you have been at your first ultrasound? It sounds as though April 24th would have been 4 weeks, since it takes about 14 days to get a positive test, especially one that is as dark as you describe. If I have that all correct, then you wouldn't be 8 weeks even until the 22nd of this month. Now, I have two kids and I have never heard of trying to determine viability with any certianty before 8 weeks. Find another OB and start over. If my calculations are right, you aren't due for an initial ultrasound for atleast another 12 days. I really hope this helps. Mandi.

Thanks so much for your kind words Mandi. I've been really thinking a lot about changing doctors. I just feel that from the onset she's been negative. I have not given up hope. I've decided to wait another two weeks before getting another ultrasound done. I am experiencing bleeding now, but that's something I've always had in all my pregnancies(I'm hoping it's just breakthru bleeding), so tho I'm worried, I still am holding on to a glimmer of hope. I will keep you updated.

By the way, your calculations are def. on point because the sac was showing 5 weeks, which was the week after the 24th.

Just doing some calculations in my head: My first visit was April 30th, she saw Nothing; the following week she did the sono there was a sac. Hopefully, in two weeks I'll have some good news. It really is still very early.

So sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I rarely check my email. Anyway, it's been 8 days since your last post. Anything new happening? I am feeling pregnant, but we all know how that sometimes goes. I will be testing tomorrow morning at 11dpo, and then every subsequent morning until I either start my period or get an positive test. When are you going to test?
