On Feb 6th I found out that I miscarried ( I had some bleeding, I was 11 weeks and at first the er doc thought it was just some first trimester bleeding and that everything was fine my cervix was still closed, however he did a sono just to be sure and he couldn't see anything....still optimistic that maybe I wasnt quite 11 weeks he sent me for a internal ultrasound were we discovered the baby

I have just gone through the experience of a blighted ovum this past week. Tuesday night I began to bleed and there was also some clotting. I was 12 weeks pregnant. I got my first ultrasound on Wednesday morning and the scan showed that the fetal sac had developed but no fetus had developed. I too found the doctors to be vague and didn't give me a lot of information. Tuesday night they gave me a shot because my blood type was RH negative. Wednesday afternoon I was sent home with little information as to what was going to happen next. By Thursday afternoon I was in terrible pain, cramping in my abdomen and contractual pain in my lower back. I went back to the ER and was given two shots of morphine and a shot of torodol. That took the pain away. I got to see a female doctor this time and she explained what was happening, that my body was working to "clean out" the fetul sac naturally and based on the information I had previously provided (I had pa__sed several large clots, one the size of a golf ball), the doctor figured I would be through the whole experience within 24 to 48 hours. I was given IV with antibiotics because they discovered I had developed a bladder infection as well. I was sent home with T3's and antibiotics and I could also have received more morphine if I wanted it. Its Saturday now and I have little pain and the bleeding seems to be less as well. I have to say though that I was absolutely devestated and heartsick that I had thought I was pregnant for 3 months and there was actually nothing there. The various websites say the odds of it happening again are slim to none but I am concerned because I was cla__sified as high risk and because I am 38 I am also cla__sified as a geriatric pregnancy. I couldn't find any information in the "What to expect when you are expecting" book. In the end you have to be vigilant for yourself and if you have any concerns, push your doctor to get you that first ultrasound.
