Some of the posts from various women claim to have had a blood test which was negative yet they were actually pregnant. I was baffled by this so I found this bit of info about one type of test being less accurate than the other: ----- Blood pregnancy tests can be quant_tative as well as qualitative. A quant_tative blood pregnancy test (or the beta hCG test) measures the exact amount of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the blood. This means it can pick up very small amounts of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), making it a very accurate test. A qualitative human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) blood test gives a simple yes or no answer to whether you are pregnant. This test is more like a urine test in terms of its accuracy.

Each lab is different as to what they consider positive to be. Generally, less than 5 is negative, then there is an in between which is considered "equivocal" (could be pregnant) and finally the positive range. You will need to ask your doctor or nurse what their cutoff is.
