Can An Infection Skew My Test Results

My period was late a few weeks ago, so I took a test. It was negative. I then got my period last week. I took a second test today and I am getting a positive result. I have had some itching and pain urinating and believe I might have a bladder infection. Could this infection cause a false positive?
