How old do you have to be to buy a pregnancy test?

Anonymous,
That is a really good question, and one I have never wondered about. I have never heard of any age restrictions on the selling of pregnancy tests, but I guess although a store clerk would probably wonder why a girl or boy that looks to be very young ( say 11, 12. or 13) is purchasing an hpt, I don't really think they will or have the right to question her/him since very young girls are physically able to become pregnant that early ( as soon as they start their menstrual cycles, as early as age 9 for some, unfortunate as it may be). I guess , I would say try it and see what happens. It is not anything illegal that has any potential of hurting the health of oneself or others. I wonder if they would need to call parents for consent though? But, I would say that anyone can ( or should be anyway) allowed to buy a pregnancy test. I say if they do not ask for ID, it's okay. I think if there is a law against selling a pregnancy test to someone under the age of say, 13, it is a bad law, and one that should be abolished, it will only cause more problems for a young girl and her baby if she were pregnant and could not find out. I'm sure that if there is a law in any state, it would have made headline news by now :) May I ask, are you asking for yourself?

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for not telling me to mind my own business :) I appreciate you sharing. I a__sume your sister is either younger than you, or you are the younger sister looking out for the best interest of your older sister ( even though she is still young) to find out if she is pregnant? And you want to buy it for her? I would like to be of some help and give some advice if you want to share more details with me. If not, that is okay too! :) I know that sometimes on these boards, our search for advice is sometimes either answered rudely or not at all and it can be very frustrating when you are innocently seeking some helpful advice and do not get that.

I was wanting to get a hpt..like an ept...so if she does miss her period...and they say that and ept is good esp. when you are taking birth control pills...do u have any advice or suggestions?

I can understand that she is scared right now, and if she had unprotected intercourse during ovulation, it is possible she can be pregnant. However, her chances are greater if she did it the 2 to 1 days before ovulation, or on the day of. I will tell you from experience that worrying can delay her period significantly. I need to go, I'll get back to you soon...........

I know that she won' t stop worrying, it just isn't possible unfortunatley. It is smart to wait until she misses her period to take a test. I would suggest waiting until she is about a week late to test, to be sure, this is what the experts suggest, as testing to early can result in a false negative result. I wish her the best, and you too as you sound like a very good, supportive sister :) If you have ANY more concerns or need any words of advice, please don't hesitate to post again! :)
