Blood Tests More Accurate Than Hpt

I am one week late, and i am usually very regular. i took an hpt and there was a second line outside of the window. i called the # on the box and the lady said i should take it again in the morning. i called my dr.'s office and wanted to go in to take a blood test because i've heard they're more accurate. the nurse said they are just the same as an hpt. i insisted that i've heard a bt could get the exact count of the hormone that wouldn't be detected on a hpt, but she still insisted. so is she right or should i get a new dr.!?!?
