Positive At Home Neg At Doctor

I have tested four times at home, all with a light but clear pink line, usually indicating pregnancy. However, it always takes longer than the 3 min (more like 7-10). When I went to the doctor (today), they did the urine dip test and the nurse immediately announced that I was not pregnant. Then when the doctor came in 5-10 min later (to discuss my missing period), she exclaimed, "oh, it's positive now." I have a blood test result pending, but I'm so confused. My doctor seemed convinced I wasn't--she mentioned the hormone can sometimes just be in the system in small amounts (?). And I have no idea what day past ovulation I am, for I am on the pill. Any ideas?

Well, my blood test indicated very low betas, so I have to go back for another test to see if they are doubling. I suppose I must be very early, or it's not a viable pregnancy.
