From what I understand - implantation only occurs about 7 - 10 days (average) after fertilisation / ovulation. You should then only test at the earliest when you've missed your period (the first day). But some HPTs aren't very accurate even then and, as can be read on this site, many ladies have had negative HPTs and then much later found out they are preggers. Hope this helps!
