How long did you have to wait for the test from you AFP/Triple or Quad screen results to come back. I had my blood drawn for it today. Im fully expecting to get a high risk result based on my age alone. Then I guess decisions will have to be made. I have my u/s schedule in 2 wks..

I took the test on a Wednesday afternoon and got the call from my doctor the following Tuesday.

Good luck Suze... let us know!

Well, the numbers arent good. I got a positive w/a 1:10 ratio. They let me move my u/s up to this Monday..so I guess we will go from there. Im okay thought b/c I knew w/my age that I would prob get a positve result..but I didnt expect such a high ratio? I just keep reminding myself that this is a screening, only based on factors not facts. So we shal see from there. Steph115, have you had your follow up u/s? I hope I have the same results w/my u/s as you and Tamara.. Thx!

Suze, i'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know how the u/s goes on Monday.

Suze42-my quad screen also came back with a 1:10 risk of DS (I am 37) I have had two level 2 u/s and so far absolutely no markers for DS so don't drive yourself crazy about it. I declined the amnio for personal reasons, but I feel fairly confident that my baby does not have DS. Now they tell me that my placenta looks "funny" and I may have fibrin deposits (clotting) and have recommended a follow-up u/s to monitor the fetal growth. I try not to worry myself to death because that doesn't change anything, but I am kinda tired of TRYING not to worry. ya know? Oh well, it's not like this is the END of worrying about this baby LOL! I am sure she will give me plenty to ponder when she gets here. Good Luck tomorrow and try not to drive yourself crazy today. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Take Care.

Thx Tamara and Steph...I saw that your numbers were the same as mine and so for so good for you and baby. Im hoping for the same outcome! Ive been very calm about this, not to say the worry isnt nagging me in the back of my head...but Im really trying to just wait until tommorrow to get more info. I had a dream last night, my first about the baby. It was a boy and normal...I dont even care if its a boy or girl..I was just so happy it was normal, in my dream at least. Anyway, I will post tommorrow afternoon. Thx for the positive thoughts and prayers.

Suze42 - How did the u/s go? Did you find out what you're having? btw... when are you due? Hope everything went well.

really I don't think any woman over the age of 30 should do the afp test it is so full of false positives that all it does is cause stress on us mothers!!! If you had not already guessed I had a false pos from this joke of a test it said 1 in 41 chance of trisomy 18 which is far worse than ds well my ds was born prefectly healthy and normal in fact he just turned a year old in Jan....I am posting this so if any others are worried maybe it will help you feel better!!!

I just turned 37 and had my first last year. So my babies will be 18 months apart. I am now about 7 weeks along and I'm wondering if I should get an amnio. I was very nervous about DS the last time around but had now tests. My ob just into recommending them. I had 2 U/S and everything checked out. I can't help but think that I should get an amnio this time around as it would give me piece of mind. Do I have to ask for other tests first? I haven't had my first visit with the OB yet.

Hi, Ladies. I read all this stuff about the screening and things and think back to my pregnancy. My son is a year (2-17!) and I was 39 when I had him. I remember feeling railroaded into the amnio. I asked about the other tests you are talking about now(AFP,etc), not very familiar yet with them and was told by a RNP how--You're just having the amnio, right? Here's the form, yada yada. Now I know I was railroaded. I can say it was ok. I was nervous and the needle hurt a bit going in. I was more scared that my son would move than anything else. I had some spotting 24 hours later that was frightening but no big deal in the LONG run. I can say now that if I'd had the screenings come back with a high ratio but then the US showed no markers at all, I would most likely not have had the amnio. Not a month after the amnio I met a woman (who is now a close friend) who lost the only pregnancy she ever had to a MC due to an amnio. If you will keep your child regardless of the outcome of the amnio, why do it to yourself? JMHO, for what it's worth.

I was also wondering if anyone knew if there was greater risk of chromosomal defects if you have your children close together timewise.

I don't know for sure but it would seem like it could not make any difference because women have the eggs they're dealt for life when they are born and the man's sperm is constantly being produced. So it seems like the luck of the draw, so to speak.

I am 38 and now 20 wks prego, they gave me that same report on my last vist. I did have a level 2 ultra-sound on yesterday (2/22/07), but I am not have a amino done. I know that there is nothing wrong with my baby and I am going to stick with that. I have waited 3 yrs for this baby and I know that God has given me the perfect little girl. From the looks of the ultra-sound on yesterday she is already perfect in everyway and very active.

Well, from what I hear, most women on this site would keep their babies regardless of DS or not, which is fine and eases the decision for those who don't want an amnio. Guess it leaves me out on the fringe though, because....honestly...I couldn't take having a child with DS. Just don't have it in me. My only child, now 20, was exceptionally gifted....and to possibly go from having a child like that to having a child with DS would simply be too much to bear. I guess this means that for those of us who fear having a child with DS, we are sort of forced into getting that amnio if our quad screen results indicate. What is the scoop now on the risk for m/c after amnio? I think the odds are actually improving as techiques change.

I am the same way. I know it might sound cold but I just don't have it in me either. Is there a possibility of just asking for an amnio without having to do any other screening test (not counting the u/s of course)
