39 Alone Fibroids Want To Get Pregnant

I am thirty-nine years of age and have never been married and never was pregnant. I also believe that I have fibroids (going for an ultrasound soon). I want to have at least one child and am afraid of being alone and even more afraid of not being able to get pregnant after I have fibroids removed. Any thoughts?

Maybe you should consider becoming a foster parent..just until you meet someone...And there is that chance you will not be able to become pregnant but there are sperm banks available if you are sure you want to get pregnant...the last option would be just wait til you meet "Mr. Right" good luck...

Hi Kara, I recommend that you first try to find as much information as you can about fibroids (internet, books). I just finished reading a book "Coming to term" by Jon Cohen that has some really interesting information on fibroids. Would you consider beeing a single mom or do you just want a baby if there is a father involved?

Make the decision to have a child very carefully. If you are sure it is right for both you and the child, then my suggestion is go ahead. I had 2 large fibroids and 2 small ones, and got pregnant as soon as my husband and I got careless. :) Lots of women with fibroids have healthy pregnancies. Read up and ask your doctor lots of questions. If it isn't insurmountable I would recommend trying first before surgery. After surgery is also an option but there can be complications that make pregnancy not viable. Again, don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions first.

Kara you are not alone. There are many women who have fibroids and are pregnant. There are also many women who have had their fibroids removed and are now pregnant. I'm 37, 32 weeks pregnant with my first and I have a small uterine fibroid on the outside of my uterine wall, which fortunately doesn't affect the baby. Like Christine and others, I recommend finding out as much information as you can before or once you get pregnant. Babycenter.com has a thread dedicated to women with fibroids - http://bbs.babycenter.com/board/preconception/fertilityproblems/1202067. Good luck.

Kara, I was 37 when I found out I was pregnant. i turned 38 in august, this is my first child and I could not be more pleased. I'm not married, this was'nt the was i always dreamed of parenting my child , single but I'm ready as can be. I have a good support system. also I had a myometomy (fibroids removed in 1999) and less than a year the smaler ones and more grew. I thought I could never have children due to the scar tissue and the return of more fibriods. I have not had any problems with my pregnancy, every test has been no bad news and I'm 23 wks. So what ever you do good luck to you.

If your reasoning for wanting a baby is so that you "won't be alone anymore" that is the wrong reason to have one. Please consider other options before you bring a baby into the world. Volunteer to babysit, work with kids in an after school program, or something similar. Get yourself involved in something where you can meet people and be around people, or seek counselling. Having a baby is a full time - life time JOB, that isn't always a walk in the park. Please make sure your reasons are the right ones and that you can give a baby-toddler-child-teenager-young adult everything it needs into adulthood.
