I don't really have a question, just introducing myself in the 35+ thread, since it's hard to find forums for older moms. I have 18 and 14 yr old daughters, and two step sons, 17 and 16. Hub and I have been together 13 years (with no birth control) and married for just over a year, and now here we find ourselves expecting. How, I don't know, but I don't question it, it's wonderful. Had an amnio and it's A-OK, and having a baby girl. Any other older moms having an unexpected pregnancy and enjoying every minute of it?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and on finding out you're having a girl! I really llke and admire a person who knows how to 'roll with the punches' and make the best out of an unexpected situation. I know a few women who have becomee pregnant by surprise and they do not know how to handle it at all. I know of one couple who got pregnant and the father was supposed to be sterile because of an accident he had years ago. I don't mean to sound flip but you mentioned that you and your dh have been together for 13 years with no birth control and that this pregnancy is a surprise--why were you expecting that you could not become pregnant? BTW, I'm due on Nov 22---welcome to the pregnant over 35 board!

Thanks for the welcome, Perl. I had my hormones tested at about 17 and was told that my estrogen was unusually low and my testosterone unusually high so that it would be very difficult to become pregnant without hormonal adjustments. But I got pregnant at 21 and again at 25, and then nothing! I have never used birth control in my life, to be honest, and when hub and I got together we thought, if it happens, it happens...but it never did. Well, till now. And why, I don't know, like I said...it's a mystery. But she sure did wait a long time and must have fought awfully hard to get here at last, and for that I am hugely grateful and unwilling to question it. Especially since I got pregnant during the time my hub was having a series of small heart attacks, so he was in incredible pain by exerting himself, if you can imagine what I mean. LOL But I like to think that I can be a message to anyone TTC to never give up. If I can conceive again after 13 years, there's hope for anyone.

Wow---so you have 3 miracle babies with this 3rd one being more so of a miracle because of the 13 year time lapse and your husband's condition. I'm sure that your story will be an inspiration to other women who are having difficulty TTC. I'm glad you're here to share with us and wish you, your husband and your baby girl good health and happiness.

It was so nice to read your pa__sage...I too am a "bonus" baby mom to be...I have a total of 6 children (already) this will be baby #7-I have 3 step children (20, 18, 15) and 3 biolgical children (13, 11, & 9) My husband and I have not shared our news yet...baby is due Dec. 30 same day my youngest turns 10....We am very excited but VERY nervous. I have my trible scree next Friday. We have decided NOT to have an amnio.....too afraid of miscarriage. Having troubles with bad Paps-severe displasia of cervix-possible hystorectomy after baby..I would love to chat...it is nice to know someone in my shoes...afraid most people will think we are CRAZY!

I am hoping to soon be in the older mom catagory. I am 36 and my husband and I have decided to try to have another baby. We currently have a 6 year old daughter and I am CRAVING to have another. I have been worried about being over 35 and getting pregnant. I am encouraged by your excitement and hope things work out for me like they have for you. Good luck. I will let you know if things happen soon. I have been on prenatals for 1 month and we are planning to start trying this month.
