Hi, I'm 40 and remarried almost 3 years ago. I have a 15 year year old son and my husband has two daughters 16 and 18 from his previous marriage. I would love for our family to be one by adding to it. How can I be sure that if we have one that it wont have down syndrome or anything else?
Thanks,
Kanani

There are no guarantees...but the chances for women our age (I am also 40) to have a healthy baby are far higher than chances for an unhealthy baby. My situation is almost exactly the same as yours...I have a 21 yo, he has a 14 and 11 yo...only in our case my husband got a vasectomy reversal last year which so far has resulted in 2 pgs. The first m/c at 8 weeks last summer. Now I am 29 weeks along with a healthy bby boy. We had amnio done at 15 weeks which showed everything to be just fine. Don't be afraid to try!
