Hi, everyone :) Found your forum quite by accident this morning, and I must say I felt so relieved reading your questions/answers. I have two sons, ages 14 and 10, and this pregnancy was a COMPLETE surprise ... right up there with "the immaculate conception"!!! I am approximately 5 weeks at this point, and I am awaiting the results of blood workup, including Beta hCg, on Monday. My new obstetrician has advised me that he will be screening my hCg level every week for the next three weeks. Although he was very positive in all he explained to myself and my husband, and he assured me that I was not at any "higher risk" than anyone else my age, I wonder about the repet_tive blood work, as I did not have this either either of my other children. We discussed prenatal genetic screening briefly, also. A friend who is in the medical field suggested that he will be checking my serum hCg level weekly to monitor for possible miscarriage, as I have a history of a miscarriage and a missed abortion (at 12 weeks) in the past. This has left me rather anxious at this point, to say the least! In addition, I wonder if anyone out there at around my age is also facing withdrawal from nicotine and/or a glass of wine at night to wind down???? lol !
