O.K. ladies, just turned 42, just found out that I'm pregnant. I think I am about 11 weeks along. Haven't been able to get to the doctor until the 3rd of August......I need some reassurance on how my age will affect me having a "Normal and Healthy" child.. I'm really scared. My previous only pregnany was 13 years ago! So as you can see, it's been a long time.

Hey there. First of all congrats on your pregnancy!! Also, it's great that you are very nearly through the first trimester, so things are looking good. As to the date you get to see a doctor, is there no way you can get a date sooner, in light of your 'age'? I'm only saying this because it's important you get the nuchal translucency scan done, and that is normally done at 12 weeks. As long as you get the scan before 14 weeks it's okay though. I'm just not sure, if you need to make an appointment for that now, or if your doctor is able to perform this u/s when you see him? It's more specialized than a normal u/s and you want someone who has some experience. You just don't want to see him/her and then find that you can't get another scan appt. for several weeks. I think that whatever your views on carrying for ex. a Downs syndrome baby, it is good to have this test because you get a much better idea of how the baby is doing. I would always go for this test, whether you wish to amnio or not. Anyway, I'm sending you a link to info on this test. Usually, it's impossible to type in any web address correctly here, the 'system' always puts in a hyphen, where there shouldn't be one. So, if you see a hyphen (- sign) in an odd place, just take it out. I'm not sure what your biggest fears are about, if it's about your own body too, I wouldn't worry too much. Especially as you have already carried a baby to term? I think that physically most of us are quite capable, 40 being the new 30 etc. Not sure what kind of doctor you are going to have, some get a bit negative with 'more mature' pregnancies, others are really encouraging, it just depends. It's nice that you are obviously fit and fertile enough to get pregnant, even when maybe not trying? All the best to you..

PS: I just tried out the web address, and it comes up fine, if you copy and paste it, just take out the hyphen after the 'r' in babycentre. Everything else can stay in.

Congradulations!! I am your exact age and my husband and I are going through treatments in hopes of having a child. If you are healthy and take care of yourself you will be fine, its the person not the age. I do believe you must take your folic acid and see a doctor every month while pregnant. Be positive and best of luck to you.

Thanks for your support. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and we have a strong healthy heartbeat. Go for genetics counseling on the 19th. Hopefully all will go well.

Hi! I am 40yo and am due to have #3 in 1 week! I have a 13 and a 15 yo from a previous marriage. I decided to forego the tests such as amnio, cvs, afp, etc. The ultrsounds were ok and we hope for the best . I still pray a lot. would appreciate yours, too. Good luck to all!
