I have three healthy children, age 21,18, and 13. I am 6 weeks and I am going to have a ultrasound next week. My 3d ultra sound at 16 weeks, but I am not going to do amnio,to many risk for my age. I feel that I got pregnant and it was a blessing, and then I have three healthy children, and I feel I am fine. If you worry about stastics, then you will freak yourself out, many woman are getting prenant after 40, and 50 and they have a healthy baby. I am thinking 1-50, that is 1%.

i agree that worrying will only make things worse... so hard not to.. all i can find are statistics (1 in 60 chance of down syndrome).. and you're right that is a small percentage.. it is just nice to hear some encouraging words base on mom's REAL experiences..

I had my triple screen and my test came back 1-680 for down and 1-1000 for tri thing. I had a level two done yesterday and eveything was good, he said for me not to do a alpha test because it was good. I have a boy and he weighs 7.8 oz and is 5 1/2 inches long. so we are just moving along well.

I'm in the same boat. I'm 43, 20.5 weeks, and had an "okay" triple screen....it was like 1-669 for downs but only 1-149 for Tri. OB wanted amnio for the risk of tri, but I just didn't want to go there. Ultrasounds look okay. I'm going for a level 2 next week. We opted out of quad screen because at our age, there are SOOO many false positives. Only solution to a high risk is amnio, and sicne we're not doing it, it just doesnt' matter. It's hard to stay postive when we read all of these horrible stats, but I'm going to try and stay postive. I do think that these days ultrasound technology really can tell us a whole lot.........

Oh, and my due date is middle of November......what about others? I'm having a boy, too!

my due date is december 9th. Dont worry about it, when you go in for the level 2 it will tell you everything, the heart, the kidneys, and everything, dont worry sometimes the internet is NOT a good choice because you read these horrible stories and then you get scared. I am okay now.

hi happygal and alley....my tests came back not so good...1 in 8 for downs....had an ultrasound Friday...they couldn't find any of the traditional markers but recommended I have amnio anyway...I'm scheduled tomorrow but having second thoughts.....don't know if I can stand 4 more months of not knowing either.....they said the high HCG could be from all the bleeding I've had...I'm really torn up right now

I can tell you what my mother used to tell me she had her fourth child at 38 and her fifth me at 44 and that was in 1967. A GP who told her she was pregnant with me told her to abort because I probably had Down Syndorme due to her age. My mother went to her obstertrician and he told her it was fine that she was healthy had four healthy children and that this was her 5th child not her first. In our neighborhood where big families were the norm many women had their 6th, 7th, 8th child at this age and they were fine. I just lost my mom at 82 and my dad right after and then I found out I was pregnant after my dad died the baby is due on their anniversary and I know it is a blessing. This is my fourth and my children are 19, 17 and 13. I did have the nucchial transparency sonogram and that came out fine. I am not having any other testing. I wish you all the best and hope we all have normal, happy healthy babies.

Never think you are too old and statistics are against you when you are having a baby over 40. Docters always have a way of telling us the complications of having a baby, but so many woman out there are over 45 and have perfectly healthy babies. Dont ever let anybody tell you different. Docters will never tell us of the good things when having a baby over 40. My mother was 41 when I was born, my brothers were 18, 13 and 12 when I arrived, my father was 51. I turned out perfectly normal, and here I am 47 and have all the signs to pregnancy, and I am hoping I am pregnant. God gives us gifts, this baby to you later in life is a gift, so sit back, enjoy and be happy. Everything will be fine, stay positive, and always keep smiling. Take care!

Hi All, I am 43 and have just started to go to a fertility clinic, I am an overweight, type 2 diabetic and slightly high blood pressure. I went to the clinic on Sat for an u/s on my 3rd day of period and was told I have 1 follicle in each ovary and also a 3cm fybroid in my uterus. When I asked what it means he just said it's not perfect. Anyone have any info or had the same problems and are now pregnant? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Dunne.....yes....I got pregnant at 43, only have one ovary and falopian tube due to endrometrial surgery, 2 large uterine fibroids....not sure of the exact size, but at 16 weeks one was half the size of the baby. We were also taking precautions (only withdrawal) but thought it would do considering...anyway, I just delivered a healthy beautiful boy on January 9th. The only thing I was doing that may have helped was taking 3000mg of evening primrose oil for b___st fibroids. Apparently it's quite a fertility aid. Had some problems with the placenta, had to deliver at 38 weeks via ceaserian, but it was all worth it. Good Luck!
