7 Time Loser

Hello, I am 44 and just found out I am pregnant. I have had 6 miscarriages over the last 10 years. after the last one 1 year ago, the grief was so great that I decided to avoid the issue for awhile. The doctors can find no cause for the repeated losses, I usually miscarry at the end of the 1st trimester. I am only 3 weeks preg, but last night I had severe cramping on the right side. no bleeding, just the cramps. Of course, tubal pregnancy comes to mind, Does anyone know how soon I can be tested for this? I feel that I am on a roller coaster. I have been having nightmares of the past losses,(in graphic detail) and I find myself checking my underwear for blood every 1/2 hour. I feel I am driving myself crazy. I just want to crawl into bed for 9 months and wake up when it is all over. Part of me wants to be excited for this preg, the other half is waiting for the bomb to drop. Another issue is that I wait tables in a busy , high volume restaurant. I am on my feet carrying heavy dishes etc. I feel I need to tell work about my pregnancy, in order to lessen the load, on the other hand I dont want anyone to know, in case I lose this one too. Is anyone else going through something similar? Any advice for me? I have an appointment with the dr. this morning, to get a referral for the specialist. Sorry to vent all of this, but I cant talk to anyone about this without letting the cat out of the bag, and I feel if I dont talk to someone I am going to lose it!!! Thanks for listening.

Hi Janet. I know exactly how you feel. I've had 4 m/c since I was 40, and I'm 44 now. I'm about 7 wks along now, and I check for blood about every 1/2 hour too. Have you been to the dr. yet? Let us know how everything turns out. Hugs....

hang in there Janet. I have had miscarriage and ruptured ectopic - it's pretty scary. I am now 10 weeks. I had an u/s a month ago to rule out an ectopic. Hopefully they'll do this for you soon too. You'd feel so much better. The waiting game is the hard part for all of us in this first trimester. Liek you, I am still waiting for that bomb. I have my first prenatal appt today and am hoping that she sends me for another u/s so I can see a heartbeat. Good Luck to all through such an exciting and scary time.

Are you saying you are 3 weeks pregnant. If that is the case then gestationally the zygote is only one week along and should not have implanted yet. It typically implants 8-10 days after conception, which would be in the fourth week of pregnancy. If you are 3 weeks how did you find out so soon. You should not have any hcg to detect yet, unless you are farther along than that. I just wanted to say also not to worry too much about the cramping, it is normal to have period type cramping when you first become pregnant and if it was ectopic, it has to grow bigger before it can cause any pain. Usually around 6-8 weeks is when someone feels the first pains of an ectopic. I hope all goes well for you and I know it is hard to get excited with all you have been through. To increase your chances you really need to lay off lifting heavy things. They say if your body is already used to exercise or waitressing in your case, then it should not cause any problems as long as your body is used to it already. It would be wise to take it a little easier though. Maybe tell just the essential people and tell them to keep it quiet from everyone else. Good luck.

A, Early home pregnancy test can detect pregnancy as soon as one day after your missed period which would be 14 days after conception which is 2 weeks.

Well, I have an update. I am definitely 3 weeks along, the dr does not see any bleeding and thinks the cramping is in my abdomen. I have been constipated since I started taking the prenatal vitamins (leftover from last pregnancy) I have poor muscle tone in that area as I donated a kidney 5 years ago and they had to cut me front to back. He told me to start taking metamucil. He also prescribed prometrium, a form of progesterone that I have to take in a v____al suppository form ,200 mg 2x per day. I have to go back on 8/17 for an ultrasound, and he referred me to see a maternal-fetal specialist next week. He also wants me to take baby aspirin every day for the duration of the pregnancy.....we shall see if any or all of this helps. I took the prometrium an hour ago and it make me a little sleepy. I am going to lay down for awhile before I go to work tonite...yawn......&...try to relax....My blood pressure was 138/88 which is wickedly high for me, Dr. said it was due to stress so I will have to work on that. Thanks to all, be back soon!

Janet, there is a lot of research out there about the benefits of heparin and aspirin on prevention of miscarriage. I am glad your Dr has prescribed the aspirin. I also feel your job does not help. I think you should avoid lifting anything just in case. If you would like to keep the pregnancy, I think you should tell work that you cannot do this type of task and therefore to vary your tasks. They cannot sack you but I think they owe you that much so you can keep your baby.

I have never had a miscarriage, so I don't know if this will help, but I've had the same sort of cramps and I was told that's fine as long as theres no cramping.

Hi Janet, well I had a m/c and like you, I was reluctant to tell anyone. I finally told my boss because I started bleeding and I wanted to take it easy. He was very understanding. I am sooooo happy your dr. put you on aspirin and progesterone. I think my baby would have made it if I had taken progesterone. Keep us posted! :)

Hi Janet, Just wanted to let you know that you should inform, at least, your boss(es) of your condition. It is better that someone know at work just in case you need to talk to someone who is impartial or if you need to leave work for any reason. I work in a restaurant myself and let my general manager and managers know what is going on with me before any one else was informed. We work in an unforgiving profession where if you have to go to the bathroom for 2 seconds you better make it fast. All the best to you and my prayers are with you!!!
