I have acid reflux, however, I don't take drugs for it. I've found that by simply staying away from the caffeine in soda, chocolate and those other things that truly aggravate the problem. Drink more water and stay away from acids, like orange juice. I've had no problems.

My second baby was born in 1996 and I had terrible acid reflux during his pregnancy. They had just come out with Pepcid and other "acid blockers", but had not tested them in preg. woman. I was told to take Tums (what a joke!). The acid did so much damage to my esophagus (sp?) that I have had to go through further treatment to repair it. All my pregnancies after that, it was OK to take acid blockers. I have had wonderful "heart burn" free pregnancies!

Their is a product called "Rennie" in Australia, its made by Roche so im sure its just marketed under another name elswhere. it contains calcium carbonate 680mg and magnesium carbonate - heavy 80mg. It works wonders and is safe during pregnancy. Hope this helps

I have had acid reflux for about 17 years now (unusually young age that it started) and in the past 4 or 5 years my gastrointestinologist (sp?) has had me go for endoscopies once a year. This is a camera that goes into your stomach (asleep when it's done). He checks for cancer and if there's any pollops he removes them and has biopsies done. I have been on nexium (max dose) for the past 5 years. Prior to that always prescriptions that didn't work real well. I just found out that I'm pregnant today, actually, and just stopped the nexium. Very worried about the heartburn but I'll be making drastic changes to my diet. Tums work if you eat like 20 at one sitting. And I'm sure that isn't good for you. Anyway...any questions about Barlett's syndrome (extreme GERD with chance of cancer of the esophogus) I can probably help with only because I've gone through it.
