Advice For A Friend Of Mine

I have a friend who is 39 (maybe 40) and she just found out she is pregnant. she has three kids, 23, 18, and 7. She is kinda freaking out because she thinks she's too "old" to be having more kids. I know in her heart she wants one, but she's terrified. i was wondering if any of you ladies have had babies around this age could give her some advice on how to not be so scared, and let her know that it's perfectly normal for women her age to be mothers again. i am planning on maybe emailing her your repsonses, or printing them out and mailing them to her. thanks a lot in advance. her name is karen, by the way.

Hi Mellissa ...I think you should get your friend to join us. My opinion ... 39 isn't old, I'm 37. I'm not far from 39/40, I don't feel old. She's already a mom.. she has experience, some of us are still trying. I say ..Wow! Congratulations Karen! : )

Mellissa - I agree with Sann - Karen should DEFINITELY JOIN THIS FORUM. I have found it sooooooooooooooooo supportive and fantastic and you can talk or listen whenever you feel like it and because no-one really 'knows' each other it has no strings attached but that makes it easier to talk openly and honestly. Also you make some really great friends! I know I have! KAREN - YOU ARE NOT OLD AND YOU MUST COME AND TALK TO OTHER WOMEN ON THIS FORUM WHO ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION!!!!

Mellissa, it's kind of you to lend some support to your friend Karen. Lots and lots of women are having babies in their late 30's and early 40's. If we all can do it, Karen can too. Some of us are just getting started with motherhood at this age. Fear of pregnancy is natural at any age but a little more so at our age, but educating yourself on the concerns you have and sharing concerns with other women in your age group can be a great help!

thanks ladies. i sent karen the link to this forum, and i'm sure when she has time she will join. right now it seems her biggest worry is about downs sydrome, and any other birth defects that become higher risk as you get older. i told her that there are a lot of tests that doctors do these days to make sure everything is okay. a friend of mine had twins at 38 a few years ago, and they were perfectly healthy. i think she'll be fine.. she's just nervous. :)
