After How Many Weeks Do You Tell People

The only person other than my boyfriend who knows is my sister, who I told at 6 weeks as I really wanted her support. Am almost 8 weeks now but can hardly wait to tell other people - when did you tell people? Another 4 weeks is forever!

Hey there luj. Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!!!!! Well done! In answer to your question I'm afraid that I'm going to say what I'm sure you've already read a hundred times on the internet - it's totally a matter of personal choice. It all boils down to whether you feel that support in the first trimester is more important than the fear of having to tell people if something should go wrong. In my case - this is my 2nd pregnancy. For my first I decided to wait until my 1st trimester was over but Easter Day was only 3 weeks before that and as I live far away from my family (and they were to be all together to celebrate Easter) I decided to tell early. Unfortunately, my pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage a week later and I had to break the news which was very sad. However, I was really glad of their support and actually it was a blessing that they knew. This time, I decided to wait again. However, my father came to visit and I had a bit of a scare in the 6th week and so felt it was only fair to tell him so he wouldn't worry. This led me to tell my mother too as it only felt right. They have been sworn to secrecy as I feel that their support is more than enough (along with my husband, of course, and all the lovely people on this website!!!!!) to carry me through until the end of October (14 weeks - therefore the start of my 2nd Trimester). I'm due on 28/29th April. What about you? It would be great to see you on the "I am looking for a pregnancy buddy - due 4/18/2006" thread - you might feel you can share your thoughts, joys and fears with us there and that might take off some of the pressure of needing to tell when you don't feel quite right about it. (Don't worry if you're due in May - the more buddies the better!!!!!!!) The best advice I can give you is to do what feels comfortable for you - there is no right or wrong time to share this wonderful news.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I am due on 4 May. Have first scan on 18 October - my 42nd birthday!! The next ones to know will be my boyfriend's parents, then we can tell friends - it feels only right to tell them first. They live in a different city and we see them about once a month, so will tell them c 9 weeks, all being well. You're right - the support if anything happens is worth having. What age are you?

luj - don't mention it. That's what this forum's for! I'm so glad you've come to a decision that is right for you. That's what is most important. Hey - what a great birthday present! What week will you be in then? (12th? Sorry - too lazy to work out the exact maths!!! LOL!!!) I'm 35 - will be 36 when the "bean" arrives. Can't wait! Speak to you soon!

It will be around 11-12 weeks, fingers crossed. Time really does drag, but all is good. Congrats on yours too - that is an ideal age - my mother had her first daughter at 36 and me at 40. And that was in the 60s! x
