Have any of you discussed either you or your husbands being "snipped"? I have been through so much with my health over the years that the idea of getting tubes tied or anything like that scares me. We're so thrilled that we are having this baby, but due to our ages and place in life we're thinking about taking precautions to keep from being pregnant again. I would prefer my husband get fixed, as opposed to having yet another jealth ordeal to go through, but he has reservations as well. What do you and your men think about this?

Jessie, hope you are well. I will have my tube (only have one) tied after my son is born in January. I have a 4 year old also and i will be 39 when Max is born...2 is good for us. I really don't want my hubby to have any sort of medical procedure done although i'm sure he'd by okay, but see, he's insuline dependent diabetic, "juvenile diabetes", had for about 25 years now, and if anything happend, like an infection or something he can't get over them as quickly as us. I just don't want to take any chances althought his doc said he could do it, i would just rather handle it myself, he's been thru enough the past 2 decades w/ this disease i don't want him to go thru anything else....just protective i guess....

Dee, so sorry to hear about your husband going through so much. Its just the opposite for me. My husband has never had a surgery, and never even been real sick except maybe the winter flu once or twice in 40 years! I'm the one who has suffered the health problems and just think having my tubes tied or something like that would cause more problems for me by getting me off balance chemically or whatever. I'm already screwed up enough health-wise! He keeps telling me we should leave it to the Good Lord whether or not we'll have another after this one, but at the same time, he has said he doesn't want another one and I don't know if my messed up body could handle it. Oh well, I guess we'll keep talking it over. I want him to do this because his health is so good, I think he would be fine.

Just my 2 cents, but for the male it's an office visit and a few days of minor discomfort. For the female it's major surgery and I don't know how many days of recouperation in and out of the hospital. I say hubby gets to go for the snip snip.

Jessie, hope all is going well. Lynnstress is right, it's really a minor thing for the guy to do, and if your hubby is healthy it will be no problem, i just don't want mine to get it done because of his diabetes. It is really pretty simple for the man, in and out and a few days rest w/ a bag of frozen peas....I will have a little more to go thru, I will have a c-sec at a catholic hospital then 6 weeks later i have to go back to their outpatient clinic and have my tubes tied, they will not tie during the c-sec because sterilization is against their religion. I know it's crazy but i have no other choice, that is where my doc is now and i've been w/ her over 10 years now. I think once the procedure is explained to both you and your husband he will see that he is the better candidate. Best wishes and take care.

I plan to have it done after the baby--this will be our third. It is no longer major surgery. I know people that were at work the next day.
