I'm 35 and this will be my first. I'm in my 7th week and hope all will be well. I can't say I won't be nervous until I'm past the miscarriage stage, although I've never had one. Anyone else expecting their first from Canada?

Hello! I am also 35 and expecting my first. I am 21 weeks, due January 2, 2006. Although we are absolutely thrilled, this baby was a big surprise (we didn't think we could have children). I too, worried about miscarriage especially because I was experiencing frequent spotting. I honestly didn't think we were going to make it through the first trimester, but here we are, more than half way through. As I'm sure you've been told, try to think positively (avoid information overload!) and most importantly, take care of yourself. Best of luck to you (from Toronto)!

I too am 35, this is my 3rd pregnancy. I miscarried and had an ectopic, so sure hoping this one works out. I am 12wks now and anxiously waiting for trimester 2 and another u/s - which is not until week 18 for me- sigh.
Everyone worries about miscarriage in the first trimester- it is just normal, I guess. Hope all goes well. I am i Calgary, AB. Where are you from BB- u never said.

Hi girls. I'm from Toronto. I haven't had any spotting at all, just mild cramping and some nausea (no morning sickness though). I haven't had my first u/s yet, but I'm anxious to confirm a heartbeat. I'm also reading up on amnio. I'm wondering if I'll need one.

I am going to forego all the tests. The big question for me is: would I terminate if it was a "bad" outcome? I have heard that the tests are sometimes not all that reliable anyway. Many women have had false positives and gone on to have healty babies. I have not had any "bad" signs this time, no spotting, no cramping. I am having bleeding after intercourse (only on wiping- sorry if TMI) and am waiting to see an OB to ask. I am not really happy with my Dr right now- feeling like I am not getting the care I need or should have after all my troubles with pregnancy. But I see her 1 more time then on to a specialist-yeah!! I had an early u/s 6weeks to make sure that it was not ectopic this time, but did not get to see a heartbeat, just the gestational sac. I am hoping all is well. My Dr does not believe otherwise which I suppose I should be happy. I just think that I should have been sent for more tests, like HCG, progesterone and even another u/s because of my past history. I am staying positive though just waiting to move on to my next (hopefully better) Dr. As for symptoms, I can get quite nauseous (but no throwing up) and it sems to get worse the hotter the weather. When do you get your u/s BB?

I just had my blood test done on Monday, the 22 August. I did 3 home tests on the 11th and all were positive. I had the blood test after seeing a family doctor at a local clinic. His bedside manner was awful. He thrust the paper at me for blood work at the lab, didn't ask if I had any question and rushed out to the next patient! (He didn't even say goodbye). And he's a new doctor at that clinic. Oh boy. In any case, I phoned myself to get the results and spoke to his secretary who said I would have to com in again for a referral. She confirmed that I was pregnant and said she saw some kind of number (16000-2000) which indicates 1st trim. I suppose I'll get an u/s appt. when I go in this Saturday. I hope I hear a heartbeat. I'm very nervous. As for symptoms, I'm like you. Nausea only, a then also a bad taste in my mouth and periods of fatigue. I'm also very hungry all the time, which is not unusual for me, but I feel bloated a lot too. I started my weight at 117 (at 5'4"tall). Hope all is going well for you!

What is it with Dr's? I know that they are busy, but still, they ned to treat us with respect and give us the time we deserve. Really, I just don't get the Dr's appt in the first trimester anyway. My Dr told me that normally they do not see you until your 12weeks. Here I thought getting all the right info and taking care of yourself in the first trimester was extremely important- so why do they make you wait so long? The whole thing is crazy. Fatigue - knocked me on my b___t!!! I needed to have a 2 hour nap after work daily, just to gte by. My naps are lessening, but I am still tired. I'll take that over being sick anyday!! Must be nice to be so thin- only a dream of mine:) I do hope all goes well for you and that you get referred to someone much more capable and worthy of your time!!

I read a lot of posts saying that women were having heartbeats checked at 6 -8 weeks, so I a__sumed that we should all go around that time. I thought I'd get all kinds of info from my first visit too, but I guess I'll just relax until the first ultrasound is scheduled. I'm just so nervous about getting things done at the right time. Shouldn't we know if there is a heartbeat at 8 weeks. Tomorrow, I start my 8th week! I thought 12 was a little far into things to check for complications.

People who are getting u/s at 6-8 weeks get to hearor see the heart beat. I am finding that it is much different in Canada with u/s. I had one already just to make sure that it was not ectopic, but all we saw was a sac with dot which the tech said should develop into the heartbeat. Now I wait until I can go again. My Dr said that if there are no complications and things are going well, an u/s at 18 weeks is the norm. What a long, long time to wait. I suppose if you were having some other tests done like amnio, you would be getting one much earlier as they use u/s to guide the needle. But I am not interested in those tests. More and more women are having babies in later life now with much success. I just keep my fingers crossed and leave it in God's hands. It would be nice to get a list of when's, wouldn't it? I should check at home. In my other pregnancies, the Dr gave me a book, but not this time. If I find anything, I'll let you know. If you care to email rather than post email me at char406@shaw.ca

I'm not sure if I want to get an amnio either. I friend of mine did and she said it was painless and gave her piece of mind. I have time to think about it, I guess. I'm at work right now so I can't reply via email at the moment but my address is me_tree@hotmail.com :)
