Any Resources For Down Syndrome

My brother and his wife just had a baby and he was born with DS. Anyone with experience on here? I would like to be able to help them in any way that I can, but don't know where to start.

Mom23 - thank you so much for posting. I will check out the site. As you know we are in the early days and they are taking things one step at a time. Fortunately, yes, it appears that he is pretty healthy for a DS baby. There are some concerns about his eyesight and he has a small hole in his heart they are going to monitor, but we are praying it will close on its own. He seems to respond to sounds and is very good at EATING and filling a diaper! :-) What words of encouragement can I offer? Anything I can do to help them?

I am so glad to hear that he appears to be healthy. Our little boy was and we were so fortunate. He also had a small hole in his heart, but it closed up on its own and he was given a clean bill of health. I guess the first thing that comes to mind on words of encouragement would be to tell them they have a beautiful boy and that he is such a blessing. It's the unknown that is the most scary. There are some great resources out there. I wish you guys the best and if they have any questions I can answer just let me know.

Thank you. I live 2 hrs from them, but have been treating this as any new proud parents should be. I know they were dealt a b__w, but they seem to be doing good...but they do know they need family and friends more than ever right now. My brother also lost his job this week...and they were struggling prior to that. I am so worried about them! Sometimes life can be pretty hard! This is also hard for me as after 2 miscarriages, I have a beautiful, healthy, outgoing 7mo old little girl. I hope they will learn a lot from each other. My family is not one to make comparisons, although I worry that the tendency will be since they are so close in age.

Thank you Perl! :-) Right now he is doing what babies do and I a__sume he will keep on doing the same. :-) I'm sure he and Katie will be eating on each others toys before too long!
