I already found someone to answer some of my questions, but I'm wondering if anyone else is bipolar and on medications and ttc. If you have any experience or advice, it will be welcome.

My mother was diagnosed as Bipolar and had 3 children, none of us are bipolar. She was on a variety of medications until they found the right one, Lithium. Now she is off of Lithium and on Prozac and seems to be stabilized.

Hi Sandra. I am diagnosed with what is called Bipolar 3....something you might say is more mild than 'cla__sic' bipolar--(but it's more complicated than that). Anyway, I had been on Trileptal, 750 mg, when our baby was conceived. Not ideal. I went off right away. But I am not too worried. (Trileptal is an anti-convulsant used for bipolar--it is not recommended that a woman trying to conceive (we were not trying--though very happy nonetheless) unless the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
The woman on anticonvulsants is at greater risk for bearing a child with birth defects. Half of one percent chance, something like that. I am doing okay off the drug. My bipolar manifests itself mostly in terms of ADD-like symptoms which are terrible, but somehow, pregnancy has a very positive effect on me this way--washes away that mental orientation. And so I don't miss the drug. (sorry if I ramble but it's late....and I cannot read my paragraph in this little box they have for us to write in). That is a little of my story. What is yours?
