Anyone Else Do The Ultrascreen Results

I am now 13 weeks and 4 days pregnant and so far so good. I've had an ultrascreen test at NYU Medical Center, which a combined nuchal translucency and blood test which gives about a 85-90% accurate risk assessment for Downs/Edwards and other chromosomal abnormalities. I will be 38 when I deliver, so my risk for Downs on my age alone was 1 in 190. After the ultrascreen in went down to 1 in 2890! So now I am undecided if I am going ahead with an amnio. I really don't want another loss....and I feel confident with the results, which are the same as they would be for someone in their 20s. And if I was 28, I would not opt for an amnio with these numbers. Even my doctor said that if it was him, he would pass on the amnio, but of course it's up to me. Anyone have good results and opt not to have amnio? Anyone had the amnio anyway? I'm looking for advice.

I am having the same test done at 12 weeks and if the results are good then I won't proceed with the amnio - there are serious risks a__sociatd with amnios too i think that the miscarriage rate is someting like 1 in 200 so if your numbers are good then i suggest not doing it

Personally, I would pa__s on the amnio too. You got AMAZING results from the ultrascreen and your odds are a FRACTION of a percentage point. I too had the ultrascreen done and along with the Level II u/s and genetic counseling, the doctor could not, in good faith, even recommend an amnio to me because of the risks involved with that procedure. The ultrascreen is quite accurate, unlike the AFP (please do not have that test done if you can help it!). I say enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and relax! Congratulations to you and baby!!

Dear Elle and Stef: I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling that the numbers are good enough to avoid the risks of the amnio, despite my "advanced maternal age." The doctor seemed to feel the same way, so I suppose it's OK to go with my gut feelig this time. It's just with my daughter I was 28 and my risk was 1:18000! Good luck to all ofyou.

Hi I had the same test done and my results were good like yours so I decided to pa__s the amnio. I had a previous m/c so I was too afraid to get one. I'm 37 and 37 weeks, the baby seems to be fine. Good luck!!
