Calcium Deposit In The Fetus S Heart

I am 37 y.o., 18 wks. pregnant, & my first pregnancy. I recently went for my level II US. My doctor didn't recommend the Triple Test because of a big possibility of false positive result due to my age. Everything looked normal on the US except "for a minor problem." The doc saw a calcium deposit on the fetus's heart. He said this is seen often on younger & older mothers. And because he said this is just 1/2 marker found on the fetus, I shouldn't worry about it. He said there is "0 problems" with the babies born with this. I am against the US because of the risk. He also said that because everything else looked normal on the US & that this is only a "1/2 marker" seen, my chances of having a baby born with DS has been decreased to 50%. Does anyone has the same situation as me? Thanks for your time.

I'm 35 years old, 29 weeks pregnant and my litle girl has the same marker. None of my providers seem concerned but I have worried since finding out. I declined the amnio and will re- post when she is born so you'll know the outcome. Take care. Mel

I am 33 and my fetus has the same thing. My Drs. don't seem concerned. In fact, one of my Drs. had the same finding with her child. The latest research concludes this is just a variance on normal if there are no other markers. There are two boards with this topic at this website- "pregnancy complications" and another thread on this board-pregnant over 35. Both are ent_tiled "echogenic foci." A LOT of people who had the same finding have come back after giving birth to say that their children are HEALTHY and do not have Downs. I found all the posts very rea__suring. Best wishes!

I have a happy, healthy, smart 2 year old. When I was 19 weeks pregnant, with him, the Level 2 ultrasound determined that he had an echogenic foci. I worried and worried. Their was no concern from the doctors. I was 36 and went through IVF, so I was very concerned. I was also pregnant with twins and miscarried the twin at 7 weeks, but was able to carry the other twin. I read everything on the internet. It was great to see him healthy and okay when I delivered. I ended up with a c-section because he wouldn't drop down, but his heart rate and health were both perfect during induction and labor. I know it is easier said than done, but don't worry. If there is not another marker, it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, I'm 31 and went in for my 20 week Level 2 ultrasound. I was so excited about finding out about the baby's gender but then the technician/doctor pointed out the Echogenic Foci in the heart and then a cyst in the head. I was SO worried and scared. As soon as I left the hospital, I started bawling. Well, guess what? I had an Amnioscentisis to find out if there was down syndrome or trisomy and I got the preliminary FISH results back and the baby is perfectly fine and healthy. I was so worried that I couldn't sleep. The doctors told me that the soft markers itself are not uncommon in developing babies around 20 weeks or so. I hope that my posting helps or at least rea__sures you to know that a soft marker doesn't mean down syndrome/trisomy. Best wishes. xo

me, Anne, Rhonda, & a, thanks for your comments. I am not as worried as before, after discovering this website. My worries will only go away completely after I deliver & seeing my baby boy. Thanks again.

Hi everyone...it helps so much to read all of these postings. I'm 20 weeks and my 18 week ultrasound showed a echogenic foci. I am of course, worried and it's all I can think about. I am going to have another ultrasound in a month as per my doctor's suggestion to check for any further suggestion of increased risk of Down's. I don't think I can bring myself to have an amnio due to the possibliity of losing a perfectly healthy baby.
Anyway, like many of you, I understand the odds are still in my favour...but I will be worried until the day I have the baby and see him/her for myself.

Does anyone know if this deposit goes away? I know that there it doesn't interfere with the function of the heart, but will my baby have to worry about this later in her life? Will this be something I have to watch as she gets older? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

i am 21 yrs old with my second child. I found out yesterday at my 19week 5day ultrasound that my son has the calcium deposits in his heart also. The doctor told me not to worry because only 5% of those who have it actually end up with down syndrome.I turned down the amnio test..its too risky. But I did do the blood test.Still havent got my results back yet.But I think as a mother, even with negavtive results you worry about your baby until he or she is in your arms and you can know that he or she is fine. Everything else on my baby was perfect. But im worried and cant stop thinking about it either.

I am 26 and 23 weeks my lil boy also has the same marker. Everything else came back fine. My blood work is good and so was the level 2 ultra sound. I am young so that is also in my favor. I am to scared to get the amnio test. I am freaking out knowing that there is chance that my first child would have ds..
