hi ladies. just found out i am pregnant a couple days ago. anyway, the dr. scheduled me to come in on the 24th of jan when i am 8 weeks. i was wondering in the meantime, does anyone know if pregnant women are urged to get flu shots? i thought i had heard that before. i have never had one and havent had the flu in 20 years....but if its best id like to know. i realize that ultimately i should ask the dr, but as it is weeks before i go in, i want to compile a list of questions to ask all at once. :) thanks!

Leslie, congrats on your pregnancy. The nurse pract_tioner at my doctor's office asked me once about getting a flu shot, but I declined it and the doctor never mentioned it. I think that some (all?) flu shots have mercury, which I didn't realize at the time it was offered. I declined it because the couple of times I got the shot in the past I got slightly sick and just didn't want to mess with it during pregnancy.

Yes, pregnant women are on the list of priority people encouraged to get a flu shot. If you get one, make sure you ask for the killed version of the vaccine.
