Is your asthma about the same or getting better or worse with pregnancy? What meds are you taking? If you have had children before, did your asthma cause any problems with your past or current pregnancy?
My Allergy Specialist informed me that my inhaler may cause premature birth, low birth weight, preeclampsia. But she also said not treating allergies and asthma would be even worse on a pregnancy. I'm interesting in hearing from others with asthma especially if you've already given birth before and were using inhalers during pregnancy.

Forgot to mention, I'm in first trimester and this will be my first child. My asthma has become much worse than it's ever been. I was afraid to use any meds so I stopped and what a mistake that turned out to be. I was absolutely miserable, sneezing, huffing and puffing, coughing, etc. I'm using Albuterol in addition to Flonase and an antihistamine.

Perl-I also have asthma. I take Pulmicort 200 mcg. I take 2 puffs once a day and I did this with my first pregnancy. My doctor NEVER told me all of that years ago when I was pregnant with my son nor did my ob/gyn. I never heard of those things happening due to inhalers. I will have to ask mine when I see her Thursday. I did have preeclampsia and had my son at 5 lbs. 6 oz, but do not believe that my pump had anything to do with it. It was caused by high blood pressure and that is because I was very much overweight to begin with. My asthma actually was fine throughout that pregnancy and never got worse. I am hoping the same for this one too!!

I am 43 and I have had three kids I am 7 weeks pregnant and Have asthma. I had it with all my kids but was on diffrent medication. I had small babies, but they said it was me. I take advir now and I was really good not needing it but since I have been pregnant I need it every day and that is how I was the last one, I had it bad , but so far it is mild.

It may have been that the Dr. said that oral corticosteroids rather than the inhalants may cause complications. I'll get better clarification when I see my Dr. at my next followup in a couple of weeks. My discussion with my allergy/asthma specialist was lengthy (about 30 min) and a lot of information was given so I'm slightly confused & concerned on just a couple of points which is I why I've asked for your experiences with your asthma. Thanks ladies.
