Hi there, I'm kind of new have posted in some other forums found the support just great. I'm 41 tho and TTC cycle no. 3 and got a fertility monitor. Wondering if anyone has used these. I was using OPKs and for three months in a row i had 'smiley face' day 14 and then last month nothing and AiF showed 8 days early for 1st time in my life. I figured I better get the monitor to check it out this time...Anyone have experience with these?

Hi Clare! I am no expert on the monitor, but started using a clearblue monitor last month. The first month I never got an ovulation reading (but the guide said that might happen on the first cycle) Im in the testing period of the 2nd cycle and have 4 days of "high fertility" but no ovulation yet. Im a little afraid that my hormones are goofy and I might have started into that peri-menopausal phase :( I hope not! My cycles have been a little irregular the past 3 months...which isnt normal. btw Im 43 and have a wonderful 16 month old son who really, really needs a little sister...okay mom wants a little sister, but Id take either. Ill let you know if I get a good result with mine! :)

I just got a microscope type by "maybe baby" It is simple and re-usable and shows ferning from saliva. I have used opk's in the past hoping to use the two as a combo for next cycle. My monitor showed partial and complete ferning on the days of ovuation I have no ferning since. Is this the type of monitor you are using? or is it the opk?

Hi pootersmum and kristin--been away this week so i'm jsut catching up..i got the clearblue too. did you get the 'peak' yet? i just started this month and it gave me a 'high' reading already (on day 7) just after AF but as you say the book says that can happen first cycle. you had son at 41then? -- did you use any OPKs then? i'm also regular bu tthis month AF showed up a week early--that's why I bought monitor. Keep me posted and I'll do same. It's easy to use, I'll give it that...if it works:) Kristin you are going to use the saliva one with OPK? I'm using the POS digital..you just click in a stick!

Clare I havent yet got the peak yet. Ive always had 30 day cycles until Feb when they started going goofy. The last one was 42 days and I didnt get a peak then, but as I said it was the first cycle with the monitor and it said that might happen...now with the 2nd cycle...Ive had 6 days of "high fertility" and no peak yet... I so hope I DO get a peak reading! I have a paranoia that Im not popping out eggs...and not even having an LH surge to detect. With my son it was just being in the right place and time, I guess... no I wasnt using anything and I was 42 when my son was born. I did try one round of the clearblue opks...and never got any definite positive result with those...one of the 7 tests had a line that was about the same darkness, but the rest were lighter...so I dont know if that was a positive or not!! Keep me up to date with how its going! :)

hi pootersmum, let's keep in touch because this is my first goofy cycle, and my first time with monitor and i've got 'high' on day 8 and 9 -- no peak yet and it's not clear if it's the first cycle reading that's a bit off or if it's accurate. what's the latest on your monitor?!

Hi Krisitn and Pootersmum--Wanted to update you guys -- I did see a "peak" this morning -- I actually think it was a day late as I had "smiley face" yesterday and ewcm last night...I'm wondering if the clearblue monitor messed up by a day on first cycle using..???? How are you two doing?

Hi Clare! Sorry for the lapse...I work out of town th/fri and the following mon/tues...and when Im home on the weekend I dont usually get on the computer...so now its catch up time :) That sounds hopeful though. Did you test with the monitor at the same time of day as the stick?... either way it sounds more like a definitive positive than anything Ive gotten yet!! :) I hope there was some bd'ing going on!! :-D Unfortunately I ran out of strips before I got an O reading or it dropped back to "low"...so this cycle is sc___pped. I couldnt find a place to buy them in person so I had to order them :( I just hope it doesnt mess up the monitor for next month...I ordered 2 boxes of strips so Ishould be good for a couple of cycles. I also just have a gut feeling that Im not ovulating and thats why my cycles are goofy... I decided to try acupuncture to restore some regularity and hopefully get the ovulation back in gear...Ill give that a couple of months and if it hasnt done the trick Ill probably consider asking my doctor about clomid...which I dont really want to do. Hope to hear from you soon and have a wonderful holiday weekend!! Kristin a microscope type? Im not familiar with that :) Take care!

Pootersmum, how are you? No worries on late replies. I am like that too. I was wondering about you though. I'm mostly been in this 2ww thread with about 5 others. We pa__sed one week together and have a week to go. It's not in teh over 35 (there is a very cool sounding 20 year old in there) but it has really helped to be on same cycle with folks. I think the fertility monitor is known for not doing a great job first month anyhow. I am currently not testing as it isn't prompting me to test during this week. let me know if it works for you. also your doc can determine ovulatino wiht an ultrasound no? i've heard good things about acupuncture too..keep me posted. i'll let you know if it turns out the monitor worked for me this cycle. :)
