I think I will have to travel overseas, about a 9 hour flight, when I will be just getting into my 7th month. Because of my age, and this being my first pregnancy, I have been worried and stressed all of the time, I don't want to lose this baby.
What I am really worried about is the risks of taking a long journey when I am that far along in my pregnancy. Does anyone know of a good information site that will help me decide if I should somehow try to avoid that trip?

I have read many books, and I can remember talking about flying in pregnancy. They advise you not to fly in the 1st timester, risk of miscarriage, nor in 8th mth in case it brings on labour. The middle mths are the best. There is more risk of D.V.T,and advise you to walk about or,circle your feet about. They also said over a certain height in the sky can put pressure on the baby, again this is especially early or late pregnancy,I can't remember how high.I have known a women who flew whilst pregnant,it was a short flight however.Ask your doctor for better information.

This is now the time to prioritize not compromise. If it's work, get a break. If it's family duty, let them know your status. Travel can always wait. To make sure THIS baby will be OK you only have this chance.

Of course this is my own opinion, but I'd forego the trip. I'm 39 and it took me to long to conceive to risk anything. I even switched to a less physical and stressful job. I would imagine that your Dr would easily write a note to your employer excusing you medically from the trip. Its not the travel itself that would worry me, though there is the risk of circulatory problems, but the healthcare in the country your are visiting. Not every country has competant medical professionals on every corner like we do here.

I'm 39, with my first baby, and got pregnant while working overseas. I recently had to travel almost 24 hours at 10 weeks to meet my husband in another country. The worst experience was rude airline staff and swollen feet, but I made it. Soon, I will need to travel more than 8hrs for our return home when I am at 17 weeks. I am not too worried this time as I will be with my husband. However, I would not feel comfortable travelling at 7 months. I'd consult a doctor.

Talking to your doctor is the BEST source of information you can get - plus they can either give you the clearance to fly (Which will put your mind more at ease) or they can ground you (like they did me) and recommend to you that you dont fly. I have lost several pregnancies before and live overseas - I was supposed to travel back to the states for work, but have been diagnosed with hypertension - therefore grounded... Work understands and I will be attending the training through conference call.. A much nicer and safer way to obtain info with out any danger to my baby.
