First Time Pregnancy At 39 Need Advice

Hi! I am 39 and pregnant for my first time. My DH and I used IUI with stims to get pregnant and it worked on our second try. I has a beta test done last Wednesday, 4 days prior to AF start date, and the hCG number was 19.4. Kind of low, but being that I hadn't missed Aunt Flo's visit, I wasn't too worried. I ended up in the ER on Friday night because I noticed a bit of brown discharge. I called my RE, not helpful at all, and was told to wait for the results of my second blood draw to make sure that the hCG was going up - he wasn't convinced that this is a viable pregnancy. I was cramping, have been pretty much since I had the IUI two weeks ago, and I decided to let my intuition take over and went to the ER anyway. It's a good thing that I did because I have a rip-roaring bladder infection that was causing the spotting and the ER doctor said that my cervix was still closed and asked about blood types and relative things - he thought that I me be rh negative; I was told as a child that I was O- and knew that my husband was AB+, so this could be a problem. Well, as it turns out, I'm O+, how that got messed up, I have no idea. I got an rx for antibiotics and an hCG level of 87, which hand more than doubled in 48 hours. I'm suppose to go back in for a third, and hopefully, final blood draw today and should have the results tomorrow. Last night I was having really bad AF-like cramps and was scared to death that I was miscarrying. After all, it was 28 days since the start of my last AF, but it was sever gas pains. Please let me know that I'm normal to feel scared. Please let me know that c__pming is normal in the first trimester. Please help me keep my sanity!!! I seriously feel like I'm loosing my mind!

Hi Amy, cramping is very normal in the first trimester. And it especially normal to be scared. This is my 6th pregnancy and I am a little more scared than usual because of my age (39 next month) this time around. But if you experience severe cramping/and or bleeding call your DR immediately. Best Wishes!
