How was your experience? I'm 37 and will be 38 when I have my first child. My fallopian tube has a weird loop, I have PCOS and a bit overweight + age -- all factors for not having gotten pregnant the 'normal way'.Had 2 spontaneous abortions the last 5 years. Tried artificial insemination 2x, didn't work. Tried IVF for the first time, got 2 embryos put back and one took! Now I'm on my 31st week and having a baby boy in mid-Nov. :)).How about you?

Hi Mum2B, congratulations on your pregnancy!! I too am pregnant after my first IVF. I´m 14 weeks along. Lucky you you´re almost there!

Thanks, Paula! Congratulations to you too! How many embryos did you have put back? How many are you having? :)

Paula - September 9

I had two put in, only one took. I still have 7 frozen for future pregnancies!

I don't think they should allow IVF. That's almopst as bad as cloning. I think anyone who gets pregnant is because of god's will. If you can't do it naturally, then maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Casey...if a child was dying because of an illness and the only way to save this child is to get some DNA from a sibling and he has none, ergo the parents produce one...is that acceptable? or should you let the child die? (I forget what this procedure is called sorry). Not all IVF procedures succeed no matter how often some couples try. If it wasn't meant to be then God would not have allowed these women to conceive either. There was a story about a man who prayed that God save him from a storm. He stayed in his home believing that he will be safe and sound in the house as long as he prayed. So when the chopper rescuers came to fetch him he said he was fine and not to worry. Later, the storm intensifies. A boat rescue was by to get him and again he refused saying God will save him. The storm worsened and his house was washed away and he died. In heaven, he asked God why it happened when he believed that he would be OK as long as he prayed-- so God said to him that he (God) did try to save him from the storm's wrath by sending the angels to pick him up by helicopter and boat but his human understanding of God's carriers of blessing was very limited and only based on his own interpretation- so he died. The doctors who perform IVF and do it with the best intentions at heart and create happiness to loving couples are a blessing to us. In fact, one of the statements I would NEVER forget which MY doctor told me after he placed by the embryos and I asked if that was it and that all was OK. He said "I have done my part, the rest is God's will". Yes, my doctor is also a Christian. I am now 25 weeks pregnant and my husband and I couldn't be any happier and I thank the Lord everyday for this great gift and BLESSING.

Do you even know how IVF works? I don´t think you do, otherwise you would not be comparing it to cloning. That´s absurd! It has nothing to do with cloning. The ONLY difference between a natural pregnancy and an IVF pregnancy is that fertilization happens outside the body. Are you also against organ transplants and donations? Man sticks his hand here too. Do you think all these people who are saved by transplants, shouldn´t have been? I for one am very glad it exists, and I´d do it again a million times. It´s so wrong that you judge us for doing this, and it´s even worse that you say we weren´t meant to have children. I thank God everyday for my IVF pregnancy.

Lovely message! Well put. Congratulations on your IVF pregnancy. My doctor also said something similar. He said, "In the end, it´s all up to the Man upstairs." I know God has been with me through the entire treatment, and even know I know He´s watching over me, and taking care of my baby. May God bless all your pregnant bellies!

Congratulations on your pregnancies! It´s so sad that in this day and age there is still so much ignorance regarding IVF. It´s so arrogant for this person (Ca__sie) to think that she knows what God´s plan is. How does she know that it wasn´t God´s plan in the first place for these women to get pregnant through IVF? There´s something to think about!! Babies are a gift from God, no matter how they were conceived. Enjoy your pregnancies!

I am also pregnant after our first try with IVF, 16 weeks. We chose IVF because I have anti-thyroid antibodies and we had go through costly IVIG treatments that were not covered by insurance. We could have had the IVIG treatment and then went home to try our luck "naturally," but we decided to choose IVF knowing that the egg and sperm would HAVE to meet! I'm thankful every day for this gift from God and never do I feel that it's "Gods plan" for those of us who could not concieve without help. I'm saddend to read a post like Casey's, considering there seems to be so few posts for us IVF girls! Viva IVF!

Ignoring Casey's post and back to the int_tial question, my IVF experience was great. At times it could be difficult with the amount of medications and shots (ugh!) I had, but it could be very humorus at times too! For instance, right before the doctor transferred the embryos the technician brought in the embryos by saying "I have a delivery for Jane Doe, are you Jane Doe?" They were completely serious but my husband and I could not stop laughing! Lots of moments like these coupled with some frustration I believe taught us the humor and patience we are going to need as parents.
