Frustrated With Scare Tactics

Oh boy I just have to get some things off my chest. I am 39 and pregnant with my fourth child. I am at the end of my 19th week. I can say that pregnancy even at 19, 21 and 25 was stressful for me. I worried about every little thing feeling that I could accidently do something that could hurt my baby. Well with this pregnancy I have had so many tests some scares that turned out alright thankfully but I feel every news show every blog even the March of Dimes has something to say that will scare the life out of us. For instance I work in an entertainment company, we just got some new really glossy brochures that I did not notice anything with when we took them out of the box at the office. After spending several hours there with the brochures I went out to lunch, upon returning back from lunch I noticed a smell like wet paint and we found out it was coming from the brochures. I opened some windows which I could thankful to the mild weather but kept thinking about it. Every morning when I come in it is the same smell and I open the windows to air it our but you can still smell it. My husband and boss say it is nothing harmful as they would not be able to market these if they were. I was worried so I called the March of Dimes. The woman there said she had no information about this but directed me to another number that handles hazardous substances which I have been unable to get through to.them. So here is the real problem while on the March of Dimes Website I saw this things to avoild during pregnancy and well among the obvious there was AVOID RODENTS, now while I have no hamsters, guiniee pigs etc it also warned against house mice which are inevitable where I live in the country. I can tell you that when I go to the attic I will encounter boxes in which there have been mice who have left little presents, I do not know how this can be avoided and I know this is something my sister has encountered while pregnant and I and many others have as well. Well now they are scaring the pants off of us as there are not enough things to worry about saying that this can lead to a virus called LCMV that can cause all of these defects in the baby or even death and I am freaked out because we have been empting my parents house as well and I have seen mouse droppings etc and do not know how I could have avoided it as it is so common. I am freaking out now and even though I know I have been exposed to this kind of stuff in other pregnancies I am just scared now and my husband said that only 50 cases have ever been doc_mented since this was discovered in 1933 but they argue and say the statistics are underrepported. Please help how do you deal with all these new scares that they keep throwing out there and if I had never been on there website in the first place I never would have seen it . Now I have two more worries the brochures and the mice. Please help with any advise or reassurance

Most likely, your feelings are due to your hormones, but doctors have a way of giving out too much information thinking they're educating you so you can make informed decisions. They give you enough to get you worried, but not enough to calm you down. Keep in mind, too, that they're (and you won't like reading this), trying to cover their own b___ts in the event they didn't inform you, you contracted something (your chances of getting struck by lightning are probably better), and then sued them because they didn't tell you "everything". I'm not kidding. If you want to get technical, there's more to be concerned about with driving a car, breathing the air, and drinking the water. As for the mouse droppings, if you can avoid them, do so, but if you can't, try wearing gloves and a painter's mask. As for the brochures, I think your sense of smell is super-heightened, just as mine was in my last pregnancy. Certain substances which I barely notice now stood out then (like dryer sheets - in a sealed box!).
