Gynezol And Yeast Infections

Has anyone used Gynezol for a yeast infection when pregnant? I am 22 and a half weeks pregnant and the Dr. prescribed it but the package insert is a little scary. I asked him if I could try something over the counter first and he said no way because that would lead to a resistant yeast infection. I am scared to use it.

Carly67, I am not a doctor but I wouldn't take a product with potentially dangerous side effects for a yeast infection, without getting a second opinion. From what I have read, yeast infections are not dangerous to the fetus, and -azole medicines (otc) are safe to take when pregnant. You don't want a yeast infection when you deliver because you can pa__s an oral thrush infection to the baby. Get a second opinion about taking a milder, otc medicine. Good luck!

Even Monistat 7 over the counter carries the same caution that it should be used only when the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the baby. They say that these medications have not been extensively studied in pregnant woman which I find hard to believe. I have read on other boards exactly what my doctor said when I asked him about using an otc. He said that if I don't knock it out with the Gynazole and use something like Monistat I run a very real risk of having a yeast infection that will become resistant to medication. He would not even discuss anything but Gynezol and basically told me that it was all that should be used. I have read exactly about pregnant woman with these yeast infections that are recurring or never going away who started on Monistat. I have not taken anything yet because I am unsure of what to do. I have an issue with teeth cleaning that is in ther forefront now since I am going next Tuesday and very scared. Read my other post if you would like to know why. I am almost 24 weeks now.
