I don't want to alarm you but it seems like you already suspect that high blood pressure can create problems for a pregnant woman. At this point, her doctors should be monitoring her on a weekly basis because she in her 38th week. Because of the high blood pressure and especially if there are other symptoms, the doctors would most likely also want to do non stress tests (monitor the baby) each week or more. My blood pressure has never been high in my life but during my pregnancy it just got higher and higher until in my 37th week it was very high 170/87 and combined with non stress test results and labwork the decision was made to deliver the baby right away (same day). She should report any other symptoms to her doctor right away. As long as she and baby are being monitored frequently, she should be just fine. The blood pressure problem should go away after delivery but she may still need to take medication for it. I was taking beta blockers for 6 weeks until blood pressure stabilized. I wish you, your wife and baby all the best--soon you'll have your healthy baby in your arms!
