I have recently had a reversal of my tubal litigation at age 50. Lots of reasons for this but mainly wanting to put something right that I did 9 years ago, and also wanting to start afresh with my new partner. I know the chances are really low but just wondered if I might be the lucky one. Do you know of anyone that might have been successful?

If it helps, I just had my fifth child at age 47 (my other four children are adults or nearly so). I had him last month, and he's perfectly wonderful, and doesn't appear to have any problems. The only thing that went "wrong", and it wasn't bad at that, was that I had gestational diabetes, which was discovered in the latter part of my pregnancy (when the doctors screen for diabetes). I had to watch what I ate, and took insulin. My baby weighed 9 lbs. 2.2 oz. (my next to smallest baby, by the way), and was 21 1/2 in. long. Also, if it helps, my Spanish grandmother had children in her late 40's/early 50's, so it's possible it can happen for you, too. I'll let you know, though, that risk statistics are everywhere, and the doctors will be more than happy to scare the stuffing out of you with them. While there's some truth to increased risks with age, a lot of this "information overdose" has come about primarily because of malpractice suits. If you get pregnant, keep that in mind, when you're being "informed", or you'll go crazy with fear .

Oh, I forgot to add...I'm in my second marriage, so I understand your feelings of wanting to start "afresh". Best of luck in trying to conceive, and with your pregnancy/delivery, if it should happen. Some things that should be helpful, which I'm sure you already know...don't smoke (if you do), don't drink (if you do), eat healthy, and be sure to get plenty of folic acid. It helps if you exercise, too, get enough rest, and aren't under stress.
