Level II Ultrasound

Morning, I have a Level II ultrasound tomorrow morning and wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect? I am 38 years old (ok, 39 in 3 weeks :o) and didn't have any of the AFP or amniocentesis done. Just having the Level II. Anyone able to tell me about their experience?

Hi Julie, congratulations on your pregnancy!! I'm 38 too, and 37 weeks along. The Level II u/s is awesome! It took about 30 minutes or so, and they check pretty much everything. It is so detailed they can even measure the baby's pinky finger. They look at the baby's heart and internal organs, measure the amniotic fluid, check the placenta and umbilical cord, etc., and can usually tell you the baby's gender if you want to know! It really is precious. I did not have an amnio either, but did have the spina bifida part of the AFP (I HATE the AFP - too many false positives!). All the best to you and your baby, and good luck tomorrow!

Thanks Elle and Miraclebaby. Miraclebaby, I am the same Julie that is due on the 4th of July with you!! I am excited about the Level II but of course a little nervous. I've had about 5 ultrasounds so far, my doc is really good about it if I'm the slightest bit nervous or anything. Anyway, he's never mentioned anything looked strange. So, hopefully all is well. Thanksf or the support!! How are things for you??

Angelbella: When I went for my level II ultrasound, everything looked very good. Since my numbers had been off on some of my earlier blood tests, I asked the dr. if she could check blood flow through the placenta. I'm glad I had her check because it turns out that one side was working very well while the other the baby was having to work harder at. Because of this, the dr. has recommended u/s every 4 weeks until the baby is born to check her growth & amniotic fluid.
