Does anyone know what the difference is between measuring small for dates, as when the dr. says "2 weeks behind", versus measuring at or below the 5th percentile. I am asking in reference to u/s in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Thanks for any imput...

I was also wondering if in different countries they do/use different measurements. It seems like many moms refer to measuring small to mean their fundal height (tummy measure) and others refer to fetus size...Anyone with any thoughts out there...?

Measuring at or below a certain percentile would indicate that dates are fairly certain per U/S, but that baby is not as big as would be expected - possibly some in utero growth restriction or other reason baby is little, as opposed to small for dates. Some babies are just smaller because parents are small, just like some children always stay at the bottom of the growth curve, although below 5th percentile is quite small.
