My mother had told me that she had her menopause at 44. I don't know what she meant - whether her periods had ceased for a year by 44 (by M definition) or she just started having erratic periods and other symptoms. We are not very close, physically and emotionally, and I won't be clarifying with her. Anyway, I was half hoping that it would be different with me, since I don't look like her, having my father's strong (Asian) blood presence. Well, I guess it does not matter if you look like your mother or not. I'm 43 and 2/3 and am having my first ever missed period. I guess I'm stunned. I don't have hot flashes or anything M-like, but the weight around the waist had crept on me in the last year. I've been telling on here that I've been sitting on the fence about another baby - I think that's been decided for me. No, I'm not going to jump and start TTC while in this transitional period. Though I would most likely fall pregnant if I tried, I fell pg at the drop of the hat and my mother was this way, too. I guess that's the trade-off for us, - (easy conception - early M). In the ideal world, I would wait until my kids are in school, more self-reliant and then I'd have another couple of closely spaced babies. My kids are 2 1/2 and 4, and that's two tornadoes. The last thing I'd want another baby right now!!! Well, now I can start getting rid of baby stuff LOL that I was not sure what to do with. I am not complaining. I just have two pieces to say: know your mother's history because it will be repeated with you, and - do not delay your babies. ***** I am in awe with Elizabeth Edwards, she is 58? - with 7 and 9 year olds.
