Annishel, Try not to worry about those results. They are still pretty good at our age. We are talking about a fraction of a percentage...and these results are not definitive they are only predictors. Speak to the geneticist..they are very informative..they will record yours and your husbands genetic history..she will advise you on your options. Any decisions for amnio would ultimately be yours. I would not opt out completely from an amnio..if it would put your mind at ease. It is quite a routine procedure and my girlfriend just had it done and she was elated to find out everything was just perfect and that whe was having a boy 100%. (she is 40) So talk things over with you hubby and your OB as well as your geneticist...I am confident with your odds things will work out in your favour..All the best and think positively!! XO Kristin

Annishel: an amnio may set your mind at ease but I understand your unwillingness to have it done because of the risk involved. If you're sure you would not do an amnio and if that is the only reason for going to a geneticist then don't go and keep in mind that AFP tests have a high percentage of women who get false positives and still have healthy babies. Besides your odds are not terribly bad. But more likely the geneticist will give you more info that you could use to make an informed decision and may even include more blood testing and/or an ultrasound. Good luck deciding what you should do. ***Aalex: nice hearing from you again. Sorry about your swelling. Baby shopping is fun isn't it! The other day I went to a store to browse and I bought just a couple of things that were on a 50% off sale for baby and ended up winning a raffle---a basket full of lots of blankets, t-shirts, onesies, some baby shampoo, soap, etc., and even a baby monitor. It was like an early baby shower.

Well, the itchies are completely gone now. Maybe it was just a momentary skin stretching or maybe it was the belly b___ter which felt like vegetable shortening but was not as soothing or absorbent as the cocoa b___ter cream. I switched back to cream. After a couple of days of feeling nothing at all, I'm feeling baby move again--when I'm sitting in front of my computer or at the piano and sometimes when I lay down on my back for just a few minute before I roll to my side to go to sleep. Last night I felt him with my hand on top of my belly--very cool!

Thank you guys for your words of encouragement / advice. I am going to an u/s on sunday and then the geneticist a few days later. I am really trying not to worry. Do you know if at the time of the test, they had me registered at 18w4d, which is acc to my last period, but acc to my first u/s, I would have been 18w2d if the results would have been different?
I think I am officially 20 weeks today :). Halfway there!
Do any of you have the line from pubic bone to belly b___ton or wherever? I dont have it or any sign of it this time, but i remember getting it pretty early the other 3 times. Am I mistaken?
Be well....

Hi Annishel, I'm not sure about your timing question, but I think that for AFP a 2 day difference won't matter much. I remember that my own Dr. told me that she likes to do the AFP screening by the 17th week even though all the pamphlets in my medical group state that it is done from 15-20 weeks. No, I don't have the line up my belly either--I'm hoping to avoid it and the stretch marks too but I won't be too surprised or devastated if I get either the line or the stretch marks.

Hi Christa, No, have not heard anything yet about the s_x issue. But, my appointment is actually next week anyways. One thing I know I have to get tested for again is my rh antibody status. You see I tested positive for the antibodies..this is likely because I had a rhogam shot at 7 weeks when I was spotting. The antibodies stay in your system for 120 days...but of course they want me to be at negative status after the 120 days to show that my body did not develop the antibodies on there own...if indeed I did there could be serious consequences to my baby..it could develop anemia or be born with jaundice and need a blood transfusion...or inevitably could develop rh disease and die. Anyway, it is alot more in depth than I am getting into..but I will try not to worry about that unless I do find out that I still have the antibodies after the 120 day mark. Thankyou for asking Christa..and I will update when
and if I find out anything different.
XO Kristin

Gosh, Kristin, I'm sorry you even have to think of those possibilities. I hope it turns out that you're right in that it's probably and most likely the rhogam shot. Let's keep up hope that it's exactly what you will find out and that all will be perfectly fine for your baby!!

Thanks Perl, Ya it sucks to be rh negative..and your partner is not. I have learned alot about this blood type ever since I had my first miscarriage and then my missed miscarriage. I had to have rhogam both times. If I had not spotted at 6 weeks I would not have had the shot until 28 weeks. Last time I had the shot when I had my missed miscarriage I tested postive for the antibodies at a later date and my GP freaked me out because she forgot I had had the rhogam. I later tested negative..so that was a relief..and my OB had a__sured me of the reasoning behind the former positive result. I am truly optimisitic things will be just fine. Rhogam is given as a precautionary measure in case my blood ever mixes with that of the fetus..and if it is not known if the baby has a different blood status than my own. Thanks again for the concern. How is everyone else doing these days? Kristin
