Does the nuchal fold measurement mean anything when you are in your 2nd trimester?? I had an ultrasound yesterday, 18w5d, and the nuchal fold measured 4mm. I was just wondering if they could tell anything from the fold measurement when you are past the weeks to test for DS. I did not have any testing for DS and was just curious if it meant anything.

I don't know about 2nd trimesters..becasue as far as I know they determine NT readings from 11-13wks6days. At that a time a NT reading of 4.0 could indicate potential problems. I had a reading of 4.0 with my previous pregnancy and the pregnancy later ended and I had to have a D&C. The 4.0 indicated and access of fluid at the back of the neck. All my blood work indicated everything was ok and after the fact genetic testing found nothing out of the oridinary other than it "just wasn't meant to be". I think I read somewhere that as the pregnancy progresses past the 13w6d mark either the NT increases or dimisnishes so any reading after the fact would be inaccurate. I wish I could be of more help..but the only ones who can truly give you that info are your doctors. Best of luck to you..and if you are truly wanting definitive results an amnio could tell you this and also the s_x of your baby for100%. The NT is only a soft marker for potential problems like DS, Trisomy, or other neural tube defects. Take Care..and Good Luck!
