I just looked on the other forums and saw this new one! How awesome! I am usually on the "signs of pg" forum and am so happy to see something for women over 35...as I am 38 and TTC my 4th and am on my 10th cycle trying....ugh, so frustrating! Let me start by asking you wonderful ladies....What are some of you doing differently to TTC now that you are older? Would love advice and shared stories! My DH is older than I am ( 47 ) also, would love advice on an older dh too! God bless all and major babydust to all of you!! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I am 35 and 22wks. I have have3 children 18, 15 and 4.I wanted my youngest to have a sibling to grow up with. Not to mention my second husband wanted an another one.I was very worried that I wouldn't be able to. Just search TTC and tons of stuff pops up lots of TTC forums too! I even found a site that said to try cough syrup.I heard that plain Robitussin helps with getting your mucus in order .I thought it sounded weird but there is a site that explains in detail.GOOD LUCK keep trying.

It is harder to concive because cycles change as we age. You might want to get a blood test to see if your still ovulating if so the Dr. may tell you to try to time your cycles better or chart your cycles.Your Dr. might suggest meds like clomid . I have heard of Robitussin idea also.I guess the reasoning behind that is your mucus may be to thick to allow the swimers through and the PLAIN Robitussin will help that.Any brand is fine as long as it's the plain and doesn't have letters after such as DM.There is a site called Femta.com to help chart your cycles. It's free for 50 days.Ifound it helped keep track of things and gave me my possible fertile days.Well Good Luck! Keep trying and relax I know it's hard but stress doesn't help the process.

Hi Jeanette, If your overall health is good then here are some tips that helped me. I am 38 and just found out I was pregnant. I wrote these tips to another women 41. Well after speaking with my gyno he told me his wife did not concieve for the first time until she was 41. They now have 3 kids after that age. She had had 2 miscarriages before. So there definitely is hope. Alot depends on your overall health as well as your age. If you are not taking pretnatal vitamins start asap! Begin a workout regime if you are not already I did three months before I concieved. Maintain your weight to a healthy level. Eat well..foods rich in folic acid..lots of water, omega fatty acids, veggies, protiens, etc. Start monitoring your basal temperature this will tell you when you have ovulated! You can chart it and the charts are available on line. As well, buy an ovulation predicition kit..these are particularily effective as they tell you when you are going to ovulate 24-36 hours in advance!! Have lots of s_x around this time elevate your hips with a pillow and remain there for 30 minutes or the whole night if possible..This will give the s____n a good chance to penetrate the cervix..do kegels if you do not orgasm as this will help your cervix dip into the s____n per say. One more thing if possible book a holiday or a getaway around the time you are ovulating..you will be more relaxed and can focus on yourself and your partner. It took me two months of doing these things and I am now 5 1/2 weeks pregnant. Trust me I to am scared, as I had a missed miscarriage at 13 weeks 6 days back in Dec 22/05. The encouragement from friends and doctors gave me the ability to think strategically for the future and I am so happy about my result. I can only hope for a viable pregnancy to the end!! Best of luck and let us know how things progress! XO

Hi jeanette,
It is definately, on average, more difficult to concieve at our age. I am 39 and almost 12 w but it took over one year of ttc before I fell pregnant. Some of the things I did differently in the months prior to conception were exactly as Kristen said; I started prenatal vitamins (exellent combination of omega 3 and 6 and folic acid) prescribed by my doctor about 6 months prior to conception, charted my cycles not only for temp but also for fertility signs, used opks to identify ovulation (really cheap on the internet), started taking the herb vitex from the first day of my cycle until ovulation (not good to take after conception so I would always stop after ovulation), eventaully switched to Fertilaid supplement which contained vitex and other conception enhancing vitamins and herbs, and also used Robitussien (plain like Kristen said) 3 times a day during my fertile week. I noticed the older I got, the less fertile quality cm I seemed to produce and this really helped to thin out and help the cm I was producing. The Robitussien and FertilAid I had only used in the prior two months before conception so I really cant say what exactly it was that helped us concieve but I do believe that it was probably a combination of all these things along with a healthy diet (I had started cutting out caffiene the month before too). But as crazy as I drove my husbands with all these schedules and rituals, it was well worth it in the long run..good luck and lots of baby dust to you!

Hi Jeanette! I'm also 38 and my dh is 47--what a coincidence! We've only been married 4 years (first marriage for both of us) and neither one of us has ever tried to conceive before last January. My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage last July. We started TTC again last December and conceived at the end of February. I'm in my 5th week of pregnancy and praying all will be ok this pregnancy. The only planning we did was to post my monthly cycle calendars in our bathroom and we made sure to know when I was ovulating and we just got busy at least once on my most fertile days. Good luck and God bless you too.

Jeanette: I'm 36 and hubby is 53....we decided to go the "if-it-happens-it-happens" route. It cut out the stress & disappointment one of my sisters went through each month (for almost a year) and worked like a charm....we were pregnant within a month! Not bad considering I wasn't sure if I could even get preg after many years of BC (I stopped taking the pill a year or so ago & started using alternate BC). Just relax and let nature take its course...Good luck and lots of baby dust!
