Perl - March 30

Trying: Pete's pediatrician told me at his 4 month appointment that he should be going to bed at around 7 pm at night then I should wake him for a feeding at about 10:00 pm and that should be all the feeding until 7 am. HA! The best I've been able to do is down by 8:00, feeding at 10pm, 4 am and 7 am and that's only been a handful of nights so far. Dr. said that parents "create a monster" between 4 and 7 months if they allow their babies to feed every time they wake up in the middle of the night. He only wakes up because he wants to be fed not rocked or cuddled and I refuse to do CIO. I've only done that when I felt REALLY tired and frustrated and needed a small (very small break) like 5-10 minutes. My friend let her baby boy (he's 10 months old now) CIO when he was 8 months old and she said he cried one night for 50 minutes!! It broke her heart but she was happy that after 3 nights of that he was sleeping through without any night feedings. But now at 10 months he's teething and they are back to square one. Now she's upset that she had to go through all of that to have it only work for about 6 weeks. Do you think we'll ever hear from Sann again? I hope she's ok.

Oh, I was wrong about her length it was 26 1/8. Yes, for those who CIO, I have been told they have to repeat the torture over and over again when their lo's get sick or teethe. I ordered the Gentle Sleep method book today. I know it is going to suggest set nap times, but I don't know how to do that with daycare!

She only woke up 2x, at 2 and at 6!!! Wonderful, wonderful...please let it continue! How is Peter doing?

Wow Sann less than 10 days now!! Look at how far you've come! You take care of yourself and that little baby and we'll be sending you good thoughts. ****Trying: Yaaay for getting up only twice that's a successful night in my view! I bought the Baby Sleep Book by Dr Sears, Baby Wise and The No Cry Sleep Solution. I went as far as charting Peter's sleep patterns and found that the more I focused on his getting sleep the more nervous I got and the less sleep he got. Ha ha so I stopped reading and just relaxed and it all got better: 6 hours, 4 hours stretches now as of 2 nights ago we're back to getting up every 2 - 2 1/2 hours (heavy sigh). If you figure out how to get a baby to sleep more please let me know!!

Perl - I think you are onto something about being relaxed when trying to put them to bed. I have noticed the less anxiety I have about it the better she does (so far and sometimes...ha ha). For me I think it started because of bfing - I would think I have to HURRY and get her to sleep so I can sleep 2 hours before she wakes up hungry again.

I'm bummed...I don't think part-time is going to happen...I figured as much...but have been trying to remain positive. Argh! Makes a grown woman want to cry. I am missing out on so much with Katie!!!

Perl - April 17

Trying: were you trying to switch to part-time work or interviewing for a different job somewhere else? Did I miss something? I read on your other post that Katie slept through the night---you must be so ecstatic! Is she sleeping through the night consistently. Peter slept his first 6 1/2 hour stretch 3 nights ago, then slept a 6 hour stretch the next night then last night back to 3 1/2 hours but stupid me I took him out with me and kept him out until 9:30 pm. That's the last time I will change up his sleep schedule. I'm hoping tonight we go back to a 6 hour stretch. Do you mind if we start a new thread? This one is getting kind of long.
